Id be real careful of that as the ones that do get used off road are extremely capable even in standard form

Never seen one where i go. Unless its like main roads up to the snow and that sort of thing. Typically oldies driving them. Parked on the side of the road, sipping a cup of tea.

I can only go by the small amount of experience i have. Stock form cars generally dont do well out in the bush where i go.

Pulled out countless 4x4s around here that were not setup well enough to tackle the terrain. Not brand specific. Toyotas, nissans and jeeps. Common factor is always setup.

I think of a recent trip to the snow where brand new hiluxes and cruisers were unable to take the line i did and had to try softer lines.

Actually had several owners of these cars comment on how well the D1 was able to perform. Easily out performing the others. Only a full locked lux with certipedes did better.

Are the D4s just that much better than everything else? I dont know but i doubt it. Seen videos of them and they dont seem to have much articulation at all.

Drive over a pebble and the wheels pop off the ground.

Seems the only thing going for them is the traction control system. Without that i imagine they are useless offroad.

Yea i would be willing to have a go against a stock D4 for sure.

Sorry but you're speaking out of your arse now or just trolling like you do. The D4's are incredible off road and yes, are that much better than all that came before it, but by all accounts not as good as the D5. Articulation isn't the be all and end all. I'm sure you don't see any hacking around the pines around Churchill no so your chances of seeing one is pretty slim around the good 'ol boys up there...

Go a bit further afield into the big wide world and talk to those that own them.

I tend to agree with DAMINK , a D3/D4/D5 would be absolutely rubbish off road without the Traction control .

But they have traction control..how good is a D1 with out CDL

way back when the D3 come out I was on a trip with my 390tdi......

I needed my rear locker and actually advised the D3 owner to take the easier track......he just as easy if not easier....

I’m not sure the D4/5 are leaps and bounds ahead of other makes and models....as they all seem to have plenty of traction aids are are way more capable than my stock defer.

How am i speaking out my arse? Because i say something you dont agree with? I think a stock D4 would struggle in some of the places i go. Actually i think a stock anything would struggle.
Years of 4x4s with big tyres making big ruts. Its a reality i suspect most encounter. My wife has 32s on her car and i have to pull that thing out quite often simply because of lack of clearance.
Its why i plan on putting 35s on when im due another set. Just to lift the diff a bit more.

As for articulation. Well i personally think it is rather important. You dont and thats fine.

Believe it or not i have been known to venture out beyond the pines of Churchill. Infact i spoke of my trip to the snow in my last post. And incase your unaware it dont snow much in Churchill.

So, is your D1 fully locked and loaded?
Im guessing it is,, And you’ve got larger tyres on than standard,, And about to go bigger.

And your trying to convince us your D1’s more capable than a standard D4,,, good luck with that.

I owned my D1V8 for about 12-13 years. Only mod I ever made was putting on MT’s,, and still outdrove the big Nissans has on 35’s,, much to they’re amazement and then annoyance
I know exactly just how good the D1 is,, hence why I drive a D4.

And just so you know,, you’ll NEVER be snobbed by me,, regardless of your background, or what you drive

But as mentioned, they do and they are bloody remarkable off road - easily better than any RRC, D1 etc I've driven or been in by a long shot. 😊

Jeez, don't burst a gasket... - I know Churchill very well, used to live there and in fact was there yesterday. And it can and does snow up in the Jeeralangs behind Churchill in the pines - have been up there more than once while it is snowing there over the years. 😉

Modern electronics makes articulation much less important than it used to - take a modern 4WD for a spin and check it out. Only exception maybe if your into digging big ruts in tracks with 36" muddies and laughing like a Hyena while valve bouncing the engine - effectively ruining it for everyone else and forcing the closure of tracks like so many do these days, but I'm sure that you and your mates with lifted and locked vehicles don't buy into any of that now do you? 😇

I thought my RRC with muddies on it was pretty good off road until I bought my L322 Rangie which would run rings around it on 20" highway d that was an '03 model - a D4 would be leagues ahead of this again.

Once you've driven both through similar terrain, get back to me...

Maybe we should organise a trip out. A modified D1, D2, D3 and D4. And put this all to rest. I know what my money would be onSpotted whilst out and about in Vic. I'm only assuming here but, I'm guessing there's not many D3 and D4s going where i took my modified D1.Spotted whilst out and about in Vic
