Fraser Island, 2 fatalities again

"Dr Richardson said troop carriers were deceptive vehicles that look like a regular passenger vehicle but handle more like a truck. He said they also had a tendency to overturn because of their narrow wheel base and high centre of gravity."

Above is a quote off the ABC news web site today in regard to the crash enquiry. Comment to the enquiry is from a Forensic engineer called Dr Shane Richardson.

Based on this information from an expert in the subject it would seem the government will have to ban young drivers from 4X4 vehicles and also consider a recall as they are unsafe to drive due to poor design causing roll over accidents.

Was on Fraser over Easter. A European driver with no experience driving a 4x4 on sand with a few mates drinking in the back is very unsafe doing 80km on the Eastern Beach. Same as it is for an Australian to do 160kph on the Auotbahn in snow in a VW Transporter full of mates drinking in the back.

The only motorized vehicles allowed on Fraser Island should be national park service vehicles. if your too lazy too walk in a national park and wanna drive around on a beach like a stuck fick buy your own beach. and ban overhead flightseeing tours at the same time.

The thing is with our society, people won't take responsibility for their actions. It's a tragedy with what's happened and the only way to fix it is with education. And not just in this case. And the problem with education? It takes time and money. That's why we live, as Mark Weber reiterated, "In a Nanny State!" You take control of people's behaviour and actions. It's cheaper, easier and you get in the political sense, a quicker result.

The banning of roof racks on abckpacker troopies may help but when I was over there I saw companies are flouting it already on a technicality.

I saw numerous "Koala camper" Troopies (the ones with the high fibreglass roof on top) and the upper portion (the extension) is being used to store luggage. So it's not technically a roof rack, but all the weight is still up there). Obviously deeply concerned for their clients safety... not.



acovach- yep you have it right. My favourite term for those people who just want to be part of the "the government should look after me and I'm happy to be compliant with an unquestioning of all the bull**** laws they bring in, and wrapped in cotton wool" is SHEEPLE. They just follow the flock.

What a crock of ****.

At 80kph it took forever to get from Hook Point up to Waddy point. If you go slower it's even more difficult to beat the tides, which means more vehicles are concentrated into a shorter period of time, which makes the beaches more corwded which increases the chance of an accident.
