Those Nally/Nylex/recycling bin style boxes are available in random colours and sizes at local Bunnings. Around $30 for the bins and something irritating like $14 each for the lids.
But they are nearly indestructible. Daily use in the work truck for fifteen years and couldn't kill 'em.
I use the smaller BOAB Gomo boxes from opposite lock. They are quite strong and they double around the campsite as seats when stacked 2 high.
I believe they are south african ammo boxes so quite robust
For the people that have used them will the recycling bin type boxes that have been mentioned be water proof. For example if I had them strapped down on a roof rack would water get into the box due to rain etc.
As long as they don't have holes drilled in the bottom - recycling crates do.Quote:

I don't know if they have the larger version of these as well. A local hardware shop has them for $5 and $2 for the lids and the larger ones are about $10. They are very sturdy, stackable, but the lids don't clip on. They do have holes for securing them down and I use a couple of cable ties to hinge one end, and then use smaller cable ties to seal the box if it's got stuff I seldom need (such as spares).
2 smaller ones stack evenly next to each other on top of the larger version. I have noted however that the last batch of smaller ones I saw had a slight height difference from the earlier batch, which shouldn't matter if you're buying from the same batch.
We've even cut the base off 2 of the bigger ones and siliconed two together to make a deeper box that still matches the stacking dimensions.
The small ones sit neatly in the rear footwell of a Defender, so if your passengers don't have long legs, it's a nifty little slide in storage box.
I'm not sure who may stock them in QLD, but for that price they're worth freighting up.

I hesitate to reply as it seems clear that many of you have lots more money than I.
However I have completed 2 trips outback totalling about 10KK on dirt over some of the worst corrugations in OZ.( tanami, GRR, Mitchell Falls-the worst,Plenty , Arkaroola etc etc.)
For storage of clothes ,food,spares,Grog etc etc I have used plain old Big W boxes . They have clips at both ends and nest and cost about $10-15 depending on size.
They fit between the rear guards 3 wide with the back seat out.
They are quite sturdy but the clips have to treated with respect, as I found out breaking a couple by not ensuring the lid was fully down. If you take a little time to ensure the lid is seated all around , no problem.
I had them strapped down with nylon straps with no problems.
Similarly I have had a set of drawers for about 10 years now that cost $39 at The Reject shop AFAIK. They weigh nothing and if glued together are very sturdy. They carry all our immediate food needs and some take quite a load. I have made catches by simply cutting slots in the frame and drawers and looping Velcro double sided strips through.
I am afraid I just cannot compute having a drawer set weighing 80Kgs as most bought ones do when the total payload of the car is usually less than 500Kg.

We bought ours from 'shelve_a_shed' on Ebay. Their price has gone up a tad but still cheap.

went and had a look at some nally brand boxes today they had 2 types the more expensive type had a much thicker lid they had 3 sizes unsure of litres I just looked at size, $16 small $25 medium $40 large without lids. I thought this was quite expensive without lids so I will keep looking.
The boab boxes are quite strong, but really designed more for placing inside their drawer system than for stacking on top of each other.
I have the boab drawer system with these boxes in the Disco. If I was just looking for stackable boxes, I think I'd look for something a bit cheaper than the boab.
