I would have a look in my books, I love them and also the Amazons which cost more than $3000 for a pair
Cheers
Anyone had Green cheek Conures?
I have recently purchased a couple hoping to breed them, but am finding it difficult to find info about them. Most of the info on the web is from overseas, therefore breeding seasons, etc are different.
Anything about breeding them would be great, also foods they like, etc.
Thanks in advance

Perhaps one of the best books that you can have for conures is
"A Guide to Popular Conures as pet and aviary birds"
by Ray Dorge and Gail Sibley
ISBN 0 9577024 34
It is an Australian book for the local conditions
I got it from ABK phone 07 5590 7777.
You can look in ABK Publications for information about birds.
The book have heaps of excellent information and it would be hard for me to start typing all the relevant info.
I hope that this info helps![]()
Quite partial to the Sun Conures, myself.
Worked for a breeder many years ago, I don't recall any special treatment, other than daily fresh fruit, nuts and veg.
Dry seed mix, plus........... silverbeet, soaked almonds, corn on the cob, passionfruit, kiwifruit, carrot, peas, apple, mango....................... they ate better than I did.
As for breeding, leave them alone. The more you interact and play, the less likely they are to get down to business.
Try rob marshal he is a bird vet in sydney has a very good site with links i have green checked conures as well 2 pairs have been told in warm climate that they will bred twice a year but have to see havent got any eggs yet
Thanks,guys

scarry have a look at Birdcare.com.au has a lot of info on conures but not the seasons unfortunatly. I was told by the people we got ours from that here in sydney the season was spring to early summer but in your area that could be different![]()

Like you, I have now learnt a new word by reading this thread! (Words are interesting. The word conure is the anglicised cersion of conurus, modern Latin, which was a former genus name for the birds, and in turn was a Latinised version of the Greek konos, meaning a cone.)
