What is it with you guys moaning on about Prado trinkets. I put in heavy duty 12 V wiring so when I go bush I can run an inverter myself in the back and I would just love if it had been built into the D2. Then there is the 180 litre tank standard. If LR put in just 1/2 the effort that Toyo do to please the Australian touring 4X4 market it would be Sooooo Goooooood. Yes there is a nice smugness knowing that I do not drive a mass market car but that is about the limit of it. I admit that my brother has a new prado and my D2 is now 11 yrs old but it was me that was stuck with mechanical trouble, not him up cape york.
I’m not an electrician so I don’t want to wade into an area that requires expert info, for safety reasons.
But I believe there is a problem with depending on earth leakage/circuit breakers for full safety coverage when used with either inverters or generators.
There is a new Australian inverted device that gives far safer coverage and is just starting to come on the market now.
I don’t know much more about it at this time but I think it will be the ants pants for improving the safe use of inverters or generators.
dont really give a stuff what vehicle it is in.
the fact that in most cases there is no markings or warnings on the vehicle that allude to there being lethal voltages on board is my concern.
it's all well and good to have them around on a trip, convenience is fine, but at what price?
what happens if your vehicle is in a prang, whats to let people who may have to help rescue you or your passengers know that there is lethal voltages present?
there are already documented instances of people being injured.
i would love to see some sort of mandated warning on vehicles that do have it on board.
like an lpg tag or sticker...
that's why i mentioned the green sticker and wondered if the prado had one..
I towed a broken down Prado 50km's to town a month back,it was 8 years old. These things happen. Pat
So THAT'S why they all jump at the end of the commercial:eek:
re-volting:wasntme:
The inverter in the Prado is only rated at 100 Watts so it is not going to run anything substantial.
Although i did hear some people are running their fridges off it.
It is strange that all the normal rules for household mains don't seem to apply to inverters. The hazards are essentially the same.
but maybe better not to make too much noise, otherwise, we'll end up needing to have them installed by licensed electricians !
not wanting to be negative as i dont care what people drive as long as they are happy...
If toyota was that intent on pleasing people... why havent they got the 180l tank/s in the 200 series? that vehicle NEEDs it.. mind you my friends old prado 4.0 would only do the same k's as our disco td5 would per tank and the discos was half the size!
like i say... if people are happy... then great... as for the 240v? if a want it i'll use an inverter... but as Inc has said... as far as safety goes....
