Cheers, but I bought it for the pic quality n size rather than the 3D tech...I know that's yonks away from being anywhere near useable, but the thinking was that this unit will see-in the newer stuff as it comes in. ;)Quote:

Technology's a right ******, and at some stage you just need to jump in and buy something regardless...it's all about making the right decisions for you at the right time with the right budget. Doesn't matter whether it's an ipod, tv, computer or a toaster, there's always something new coming out which will be great until the next best thing comes along. ;)
I got a very good deal on the unit which was enough to sway me, and personally I don't give a toss about 3D until there are some films and tv released which I want to watch. Gawd, imagine curling up on the couch with your missus and leaning over for a snog wearing massive dorky glasses...no thanks! Hehehe! For now it's for xbox, dvd's, streaming from my mac, and later on can do some 3D stuff that interests me.
As BD does not support 1080p @ 48fps, last I heard they were going to use diffence data instead of storing both frames. This was going to get the size down to 150% of 2D BD. I dont know what they are doing know. Wikipedia says "MPEG4-MVC compresses both left and right eye views with a typical 50% overhead compared to equivalent 2D content, and can provide full 1080p resolution backward compatibility with current 2D Blu-ray Disc players."Quote:

just heard that avatar takes up the entire 50gb of a blueray disc in 2D...and 3D is like having two movies...hence the space issues, apprently they are looking into it as they dont want to compromise on quality. but you seem to know a lot more about it then me..
the glasses were the ones that come with the samsung tv OEM I would imagine...that was the first thing I asked as it only comes with 2 sets of glasses in the bundle pack...and my dogs like eating things electrical...:D

BTW - RealD 3D is the most common 3D cinema technology in Australia and are well placed to become a major supplier of after market glasses. From what I understand, samsung glasses wont work with a panasonic tv and visa versa. LG, Sony - the same. The quality of the glasses will become a point of difference between manuafactures, as the panels themselves wont be that different.
Oh and I understand Plasma is better suited to 3D than LCD (inc LED backlit LCD) - less cross talk. OLED is better than plasma or LCD for 3D, which probably means we will all be buying new OLED tv's once the 3D hype is over :)
