i don't have a D2, but all lights on dash and no brakes sounds like it stalled?
Glad to hear all ok.
Just chatting to my neighbour who went up camping with 2 mates and kids up around walhalla.
Cut a long story short, his mates Disco 2 ended up being written off as it hit a rather large tree stup at speed. They had been doing a couple of tracks in the AM and then stopped for lunch. Then went to go to the camping spot and Steve went down in is Patrol first, with the disco following. Luckily it was just the driver as Steve had the kids in his vehicle.
ANyway..... Disco starts to go down the hill with HDC engaged etc. Mate says it went bing bong, dash lights up and then car starts to go down the track on it's own. Cannot remember if engine was running but he had no brakes for sure. Reckons he had the clutch out, but is not 100% sure. Managed to avoid the back of Steve's Patrol but ends up hitting the said tree stump.
He was ok but very shaken and think he won't be a/ getting another Disco and b/ not going off road for a while.
He ended up getting it recovered from the track then towie to Warragul. Insurance assessing but think it will be written off.
Might have some pictures later.
So..... does anyone know what might have happend to cause this?... I'm at a loss. Is there anyway to interrogate the electroincs to find out what codes it has on it.....would they give any hints?

was wondering that... "all lights" might mean 3 Amigos.... can't get any more detail. If it stalled he MAY have dipped the clutch, hence the run away. No engine running means no servo brakes or power steering. Managed to keep it on the track which was windy.... but even small ruts could tram-track it.
Hmmmmm.

Probably x2 but,
It may have been a problem with the rollover switch under the bonnet (that's if it's a Td5, don't know if the V8's have them). Mine died in the middle of the Big Desert. No worning, it just stopped everything and lit up the dash like a Christmas tree![]()

Was he in Hi range by mistake? I did that the other week, I could not figure out why Hill decent was faster down hill than when used previously on the same trip, until I realized I had not put it into low range.
If HD has been used alot and the brakes get too high of a temp does it not stop working? I do not have my hand book handy to check but recall reading something along those lines.
Good to hear that no one was hurt, and goes to show that we always have to be on our A game when out 4wdriving.
Personally I usually do not use HD.
"Bing Bong" indicates that the system is shutting down... Then 15 seconds later it does.
All the pilot had to do was PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL to slow down
Sounds like inexperience or a lapse of judgement caused it.
Glad no-one was hurt.
i suspect lack of experience was a big part. Witnessed it first hand with some others. Will be suggesting training courses. I have done one, plus extensive snow driving experience in Scotland, and every bit helps.

good that no one was hurt..
I have never used HDC, as a novice i want to learn how to control the car first myself.. then i know if HDC feels right or wrong.. once i think i have enough experience i may then look at using it...
Training sounds like a good idea!

Glad to hear no one was hurt(exept pride maybe).
Hill decent will only work in low range on the D2's.
Takes to much speed before it slows the car up using the brakes.
I have tried it and don't use it, to much chance of over heating the brakes and when you need them...brake fade.
Possible when it got to speed he may have "jumped" on the brake(turning HDC off) and locked the wheels causing the motor stall.
Nothing like a theory from someone not there![]()
