How active are you? Beagles are non-stop hyperactive, will run and chase all day. Nice clean little dogs, good temperament.
Anyone know anything about them ?
Are they a hardy breed or do they have inherant health problems ?
I have been thinking about getting one.
Ivé never owned a dog !!

I'd love one, I think they are best dogs out there, obedient, loyal, playful, great with kids, but the wife would shoot me if I brought a 3rd one home. Go for it, you only live once and if you don't you do it you will never know how rewarding it is. Just Google them, that will tell you everything you need to know.
Cheers Ian
Thanks Ian.
Thanks Brian, I am old and decrepid but if I was to sit out the back in my chair I could occasionally shout " Sic Im ".
Might give it a go.
Their is a breeder here in Mackay but they want $600 a pop ?
I wonder if I could get a new second hand one ?
Cheers.
Robert.
To say they are scent fixated is an understatement of massive proportions. They are lovely, jolly and friendly dogs but everyone I know who has had one found them hard to control off the lead because of their nose.
We had one a few years back. If you're not active I wouldn't recommend them as they are very active, and as MacMan wisely said, need to almost always on-lead if you walk them. At least that was our experience.
And without exercise they tend to get overweight incredibly easy due to their remarkably effective pleading faces...
Apart from that they're wonderful. They will eat anything however (and I do mean anything.... Headphones, clothes, remote controls....)
Eddie.
We looked at getting a couple a few years ago..... Everyone said, including members of the Beagle club, that they great dogs but need plenty of exercise and stimulation or else they may end up with behavioural problems.... Hmm sounds like the same as the instruction sheet that came when the stork delivered me to the folks.
Also that even though they are very trainable and intelligent unless they are in a closed off area don't let them off the lead.... as previously stated.... they are lead by the noses.... smells rock their world.
We have only a small yard and couldn't commit to regular serious exercise so opted for a couple of lower maintenance mongrels.... Well one is low maintenace![]()

Our family had a Beagle (Swifty) when I was younger and he was exactly as described above - a terrific dog!!
Bob
Thanks, plenty to think about there.
It might be an unhappy dog if I cant run about and keep up with it.
Feet are made to be placed in stirrups or pushing pedals, eh.
Might have to think twice about it.
