If it's a company, do an online ASIC search for any documents lodged recently. You'll need to pay to see the detail, but the free search will tell you if, say, an administrator has been appointed.

I purchased some parts over the phone from a shop in Vic (I'm in Brisbane) a few weeks ago. The parts never turned up and the phones have now been disconnected.
They have been around a few years and I purchased parts from them 12 months ago without any problem.
How can I check if they have closed down or in the ****??
If the speed of light = 299,792,458 m/s, what is the speed of dark?

Funny co-incidence.
I wanted to buy some winch rope & went to a shop in Somerville today as the phones were disconnected & I wasn't prepared to go online.
According to the guy opposite (the shop was shut but I peeked inside & all the computers & paperwork were there) was that Steve was in Central OZ with the challenge & will be back next week.
Fingers crossed ( we are talking the same company I guess).
I am wondering if anyone here is having problems with purchases from the particular 4x4 accessories supplier mentioned above?
I've still not had any luck in contacting the business. Also, since posting my query regarding this retailer on another forum, I have been inundated messages from people in the same predicament - some of which are owed over $1000 of gear![]()

If it's ******'s I had heard the other day that they have closed.
I have not tried to verify this.

Damn. They've taken my money for a D1 susp kit, and I can't get in touch with them. Last e-mail answered about a 3 weeks ago.
Tried ringing other businesses in the area, and calls aren't getting through to them either.![]()
I got an email from troy 26/5 saying he had resigned. Didn't say anything about the business closing and refered me onto the office or Steve for any enquiries.
Being an optimist perhaps things will return to normal when Steve gets back from Broken Hill.... but then the business has been slipping for some time with orders being processed very slowly.
EDIT - Just saw he has no listings on ebay. Last ebay feedback left by them was on 19/5. 4h store still up.
To clarify, this is all I've heard:
Looks like ******'s is no more. I was speaking with Troy via email 2 weeks ago organising to get a new motor for the winch. I then tried to ring them last week to finalise the order and the phone was disconnected and no-one responded to emails.
I had given up and rang ARB but they told me they would not have any motrs for 2 months!!! I had another look online today and found a new seller on Ebay and it was a different company but same name as the sales guy from ******. I rang him up and he had motors in stock but would not say anything about ******'s except they had closed down.
I ordered the motor from him so I hope it arrives ok. It was the same price but with free delivery but no breather kit added. I figured all my other winches were ok without the breather or I can just tap my own breather into it.

I feel sorry for those who have a substantially greater financial exposure to this issue than I have.
I guess we thought we were purchasing gear - not sponsoring his participation in the Outback Challenge while the rest of of us shuffle off to work to earn our hard earned cash.
I would have thought sorting out the issues with his customers would have been a priority - but obviously not!
Good for some eh?

xxxxxxxxx was only a navigator for xxxxxxx xxxxxx , So you would not be funding his outback trip
In what everone has said about said person he has a reputation for folding buisness ventures then reapearing , i my self would only deal in person and not over line or the phone with himto be sure
