Bump.
So does anyone have any updates ?
Any favourite machine or ones to avoid ?
I service a few commercial machines so always interested in what everyone is finding works for them :D
I was going to be conservative with the investment in one but after reading about the cheap aluminium thermoblock machines I think that the pick of the bunch is the Rancilio Silvia.
There are excellent reviews about this machine.
it all comes down to budget...
I've had a Silvia for nearly 10 years now and its as good as the day I bought it... buy auberin's PID upgrade and you are good to go...
But tech has moved forward and the vibiemme domobar hx is a superior machine (for admittedly a fair bit more money!)
I have a Breville dual boiler & am very happy with it. Makes a really good cup & no recovery time with the second boiler. Was close to getting the Rancillio but for the price I felt I was getting a lot more with the Breville. I also got an extended 5 yr warranty where if anything goes wrong they swap old for new. No problems so far & am loving the coffee it produces. You can read reviews about them on Coffeesnobs. Good luck.
PID Control Retrofit KIT for Rancilio Silvia w/ screw RTD sensor PID Temperature Control Retrofit KIT for Rancilio Silvia Espresso machine [KIT-RSRTD] - $151.00 : auberins.com, Temperature control solutions for home and industry
its US$150 not $400?
I bought the machine, used it for a few years then did the upgrade. no more "surfing" required ;-)
That is much better!, I was looking at the difference between a standard machine and one fitted with a PID in THIS LINK
They are selling the PID for U$A235
What does it control? I wonder if I could adapt this to my Solis SL90 Crema which has a 300ml boiler like the Silvia.
Do you have a copy of the wiring diagram that you could scan and email to me?
Maybe this is the one I need? My Solis has pre-infusion and a separate steam switch to increase the water temp.

I have already done this conversion: http://www.ielogical.com/coffee/Soli...isSL90Mod.html I modified their LED wiring and changed it to a neon as I felt their method was dangerous as the LED isn't isolated from the mains.
Ron, THIS LINK can be of any help?
