    identifying a jeep?

friend of mine has just picked up a 60's era jeep, plated as a CJ6 and from what he's been told was supposedly originally owned by the forestry comission of some state, although we're not sure where

what we do know is that it has a ford pre-crossflow inline six engine, jeep gearbox and toyota diffs, what would appear to be a body constructed from zincanneal and its a trayback......

are there any jeep guru's here?

Yep, right here!!! *ok, so I love n own both Landy n Jeep...* Can you upload some pics??? Many from that era are bastardised, so as many pics as you can provide (or even engine/chassis #'s) would be ideal to solve the mystery! Let me know mate!

CJ6 was the long wheel base and the ford motors are a very common swap. Like holden in landys. The galvanised body work will be original. Landys use alloy Jeep use galv.

    We need a pic.
Your description is not right , or the vehicle is made up.
    I own a 1960 CJ6 and only this last weekend closely inspected a 1971 CJ6 for purchase.
1959 to 1966 they had the F head Hurricane motor which is a development of the war time willys go devil motor.
The 250 ford falcon motor of the time was fitted from 1966 onwards as a option to the willys motor( called the combat six )( not cross flow) by willys Aust brisbane.
and this happen until I think 1972.
The diffs should be Borgwarner( looks like a small Dana) .
The gear box was a locally made version of the american jeep gearbox as was the transfercase with slight differences..
Body work was simple if crude steel pressings etc, mostly fitted with steel half cabins at the time and some time open top, or fully enclosed steel tops.
Some could be ordered as a simple table top.(rare and body stopped behind the drivers seat unlike most of the other models)
If it is a table top with gal body it would be a fair bet it was fitted or chopped ect by a previous owner as the cross flow motor.
The falcon motor versions from the factory had a deeper recess in the fire wall to take the longer motor.

it does have a deeper recess in the firewall, and the firewall looks a very professional job unlike most "she'll be right mate" conversions.....

engine bay appears identical to the one in this advert:
    1968 JEEP CJ6 Cars For Sale in QLD - carsales.com.au - carsales.com.au

the rear of the cab does end immediately behind the seats, and it has a contoured hard roof, hinged doors with a basic canvas/clear plastic upper held on by press studs over a steel frame

the guy he got it from is a jeep and mopar nutter, so i have reason to suspect his information isnt totally false

Most likely a original one with a later cross flow motor dropped in Is whats being described.
The car sales pic is standard fair except for the rear bars.
If you are looking for one the local one near to me is 2k drive away with 10 months rego, steel half cabin, extra fuel tank , but has body rust which is normal for these vehicles as they tend to be left in the open.
