I'm not convinced this is a law or rules matter. After all, the anti bike sentiment seems to believe a significant proportion of cyclist are flouting the laws anyway. And I agree corners are cut by cyclists. Sometimes to keep out of trouble or harms way. This is more deep seated than that. There is real resentment out there.

Maybe its the same elsewhere in the world these days and I've simply lost touch.

I can only report what I experience and see and hear from others.

I may have lost touch as well. Tonight a person who would clearly not see bike riders either did not stop when my kids were on a pedestrian crossing. The dent in his car is big and I did offer to come to the police station to explain where and how his car was damaged by me on the pedestrian crossing. I am a little tolerant of mistakes. No acceptance of deliberate selfish people whose time is more important than road rule or people life. I might be a grumpy old sod now Poor mug was looking at both me and the kids before he pushed though us.

Kids using our roads as do bikes, motor bikes, slow drivers...... are you really in that much of a hurry.

Do the instances of "dooring" prove a point about a level of ignorance on our roads. A lack of cycle awareness. Perhaps.

If a cyclist tried to fold my door in I think they'd break their knee on a slider

No mate. One child was not one her scooter which I was carrying as we walked on the zebra crossing. It was fairly solid steel which carved the DONT TRY AND KILL MY KIDS in the car. My knee could have been used on his face had he chose to pursue his stupidity. Luckily my knee remained on as it should. Side bars or bull bars would not and should not protect me our any body who contemptuously stuffs with your or my kids on bikes or on foot.

Sorry all. grumpy dad I am.

No, your not grumpy I would have done the same except maybe through the windscreen as it is plainly too dirty for him to see clearly so you would have done him a favour by removing his windscreen he could see the people on the crossing

Duncan Gay considers licence for cyclists, bans from certain roads

NSW Roads Minister Duncan Gay says he is "increasingly persuaded" that a licensing system needs to be introduced for cyclists on the state's roads to combat an alarming number of rider deaths.

In what is sure to spark debate among road users, Mr Gay also signalled that he was considering banning bicycles from certain roads in Sydney to ensure riders' safety.

    Yep, read this last night.

I'm sure another piece of credit card sized plastic in my wallet will extend it's force field around me and save me from doing something dumb or being hit by a car..........

And will we license all the kids too ?
We'll have three and four year olds lining up at the RTA to do their exam and then be observed on their Cyclops by a crusty old licensing examiner.....

I'm starting to think it's time for flaming pitchforks and we storm the Reichstag....

Australia is the number 4 most expensive country in the world and if they keep introducing more regulations and fees we soon will be number 1 !!
Some times I cannot understand how pensioners and families with low incomes can live in NSW and Victoria
I just wonder when they will start charging admission to go to the beach.
It will be impossible for me to live there!
