Thread: Cyclist aware drivers... are you one?

Using the same reasoning as the cyclist intolorants are presenting, shouldn't they feel the same way about motorbikes and groups of motorbikes. And if so, doesn't that smack of bullying.

To add to the rego debate, riddle me this; Why should motorcycles and scooters pay CTP and Rego, but not bikes, if a Vespa or a Bike cleaned someone else up at the same speed, I think the bike with all it's sticky our handle bar bits would do more damage than the smooth fronted Vespa...

I dont need that sort of crap regardless of right or wrongs and who did what.

If I had an accident with a cyclist I dont think I would come out a winner and that is the bottom line.

Quite some years ago, I was driving in Melbourne peak hour traffic in the 100". I was in the left hand lane hooting along at a few km below the speed limit on a three lane stretch of road. The two right hand lanes were going a bit faster as in front of me there was a cyclist hooting along at well over 60km/h. He was doing well, but, he was also all over the road. I held back and gave him space. He had my respect. I had no chance to get in the centre lane to pass him but that was ok as he was moving along pretty quick. As he weaved along, he got a little too close to a tray ute in the centre lane and clipped the tray with his handle bars. Well, over he went. I'll never forget that haunting sight, this cyclist on his back with his feet toward me. The look of fear on hes face as he saw a 4WD boring down on to him. I remember he covered his face with his arms.
In the mean time, I had planted my foot on the brake hard. That day, I had had AMV in Ringwood rebuild my brakes. New seals, pistons and pads on all four wheels. The Landrover came to a screeching halt ten to fifteen feet from his feet.
He got up and was bundled into a car of a passing motorist and I never heard of the incident again.
Why do I type this? In my experience, cyclists do "come a gusta" often.
We have big signs around the plant where I work. "Who is responsible for workplace safety? You are."
Maybe the cyclists should get their own signs made up.

Cyclist killed in Neutral Bay - run over by a turning bus. Early indications are the rider trying to pass on the left of the bus and caught under it as the bus turned left.

Note : This of course may not be correct but is the initial report on the news.

I do feel the same way about motorbikes. Guess what? They're registered.
Oh, and motor bike riders may ride two-abreast but no more than 1.5 metres apart.

I don't think that's bullying at all. It's the road rules.
Oh, I see, when the police book you for disobeying a road rule, that's obviously bullying. Can I get you as an expert witness in my court case?

Since humans stood upright, they seem to have been in conflict with each other. Neanderthal & Cro Magnums. Then move on a bit, Romans & every one else. Then Asians & round eyes, then bike riders & the rest. No one seems to have recognised the fact we do not have the road network for both bikes & cars to be together. Something must give. Cars, whose drivers pay to be on the road, win. Bikes, whose riders are free , wind in the hair, independent, do want we want, until you pay for the privilege , stay on the bike paths. Rode a motor bike for year. I was run into while I was stationary once. Not hit by idiots changing lanes or other what I would call dangerous and stupid manoeuvres a few dozen times as I managed to take evasive actions. Traded up from a Nice BMW to a push bike and my D3 now. I ride a few hundred km each week. I am not a bike Nazi and I agree some bike riders are complete tossers!


See about 10 or so completely ignorant drivers (ignorant of my right to breath) per week. Several thousand careful and considerate drivers make me know most people are not trying to kill me. One or two whom have are very lucky I view them as completely ignorant stupid but have no wish to kill them for there attempts to murder me! I understand it is not self defence if I kill them a few minutes after they try and run me down.


A little mutual respect for each of our rights to breath and not have "Its my right to drive over another human" might be to much to ask from about 5% of stupid selfish tossers. About 10 of my motor bike riding mates are dead or train wreaks. At only one funerals did the person whose ignorant driving which killed a person turn up. We didn't kill him either. He was distraught about his actions killing a person.

I guess they would ride on the bike paths but there's too many pedestrians slowing them down.
