You are quite right, it is as sexist as all hell.....and the rest of it is as speculative as all hell and also as inappropriate as all hell.
And I'm not exactly a friend of hers or in any sort of hurry to see her take over the leadership given her political bent but that's leaving her gender aside.

    No I'm not kidding.

Just do some research about Thatcher!

Yes she did close most of the coal industry and put whole communities out of work and yes she did sell off the nationalised industries. But that is not a bad thing, British coal was expensive to extract, almost exhausted and was heavily polluting high sulphur coal. The auto industry was moribund and only kept alive by the life support machine of the British taxpayer. Had her reforms not been implemented, the U.K. today would be in a state not dissimilar to Greece and Spain needing to be bailed out by the EU.

Even some of her most vocal critics like Tom Robinson say "Nonetheless it's an uncomfortable fact, even for those of us who violently disagreed with her, that Britain is overall a more vibrant and prosperous society than in 1979, even if its inequalities are greater. " http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3681973.stm

Even in polls including Thatcher, Blair and Brown where respondents were asked "which politician at the height of their powers would you chose to be prime minister" Thatcher was ahead of her closest rival (Blair) by 35% (20:27) Voters prefer Thatcher and Blair to Brown, poll finds | Politics | guardian.co.uk

It doesn't matter who you vote for government wins!
A different face with the same self serving attributes.
How can anyone be so fickle as to suggest it would be a good thing to re-install that old relic and somewhat megalomaniac character that was Johnny howard he should be resigned to history, he only left office because he was pushed.
It appears that all potential leaders available to us seem dramatically weak of wrist and lack the guts to make a solid assertive choices, it's a shame that Kev isn't as "fair dinkum" as he likes to portray himself as a good old boy country Queenslander and the trite soundbites (fair shake of the sauce bottle etc) compound a sense of the false.....if he bought a defender I might be inclined to believe him more

While disliked by many, her government's actions dismantled the British Leyland disaster established by previous Labour governments and set British industry on a path that has re-established Britain as a modern industrial powerhouse. A lot of males would not have taken the Argentine on over the Falkland islands.
How did thatcher develop any industry she screwed over the working class and aided and abbeted the bankers
As for the Falklands hardly a bright move sending a more or less ceremonial part of the British army that couldn't yomp and that ended in disaster With the poor bastards that did not die ending up being maimed, all for her win..

    >>>>>>>she gave the newly unemployed credit cards !!!
The country is not that far off being on a par with Greece, had it not been due to the british paranoia of giving up sovereignty of it's currency I reckon it would have it the dirt like the other two.

I will admit that the socialist government prior to Thatchers installation were not that much chop I remember rubbish being piled up on common ground because the bin men were on strike and we had power cuts etc but she sold out the working class to protect the middle and upper classes, nothing short of hanging would befit the witch only my opinion

I'm not really up there with how well Thatcher did / did not do as PM. Never took a lot of notice at the time.

But her open support of Pinochet was enough to put me off the woman for life.

Agree with earlier comments though that gender has absolutely no bearing on how well anyone performs in the PM or any other role. I can quote way more male leaders who have completely stuffed countries than female leaders, so this type of logic just doesn't hold water.

Will be very glad to see Rudd get his come-uppance. Long overdue. But I don't think that Julia Gillard is the one to lead Labor out of its troubles either. She comes across as way too arrogant for my liking. I think they'd be much better served with Lindsay Tanner as leader. From what I've seen of him, he is a far better performer in debates etc than either Rudd or Gillard, and is more than a match for Abbott. But I don't want to see him in the role at the moment either - would much rather see a change in government at the moment than any continuation of the current disastrous economic policies.
    Cheers .........

Time to get back on track. Cant wait for PM Gillard to make her first appearance at the G20 open her mouth with that nasal bogan voice of hers and embarass the hell out of us.

I dont care how smart or competent she is, that voice of hers is just wrong.

    Interesting thread.
I have been doing a job for a customer who has acquaintances/ties with people in the Vic Labor Party. The word is Mr Rudd is not a very nice person and is way different to what the public sees.
Personally, I could see through his hype before the last federal election.
