I imagine that if Julia Gillard replaced Kevin Rudd as PM then the proposed mining tax will be ditched, in which case Treasurer Swan should also resign as his position will be untenable. If you compare Swan to former Treasurer Peter Costello, Swan comes across as a complete idiot.

I think Stephen Smith (Foreign Affairs) would be a better choice for PM.

And here I thought it was ....... Kevin '07, gone by '11.

I cherish the thought I was a year out. But that bloody Gillard .......... can't stand the woman .

Personally, I have a theory on Aus politics......

We have a Liberal government for years, along with stability and sound ecconomic strategies which lead to prosperity and money in the bank. But then, as usual, familiarity breeds contempt and complacency rears its ugly head. At the same time we have a new generation of young wet behind the ears voters who fall for all the rhetoric and BS of the Labor mob and so they say .. out with the old and in with the new.

So Labor get to take over the reins and proceed to stuff it up completely for a few years, don't spend a cracker on Defence and comfortably manage to send us back into hugh levels of debt etc.

By then the youth have matured somewhat, seen the error of their ways and so Labour is again banished to the opposition benches for years and the Libs get the job of picking up the pieces and putting it all back together again.

Roll forward a few terms and the wheel has turned full circle and it starts all over again.

Look back over the last 30-40 years of Aus politics and that's been a definite trend. Started with Whitlam and has been happening ever since.

I'm going to reply to my own comment, I was wrong to say bring back Menzies. He was a light weight who lacked vision and balls.

I say bring back primeminister Sir Robert Muldoon.

    cheers,
    Terry

Yes...he was to good for Australia, and then the people of Australia let one person with the bless of the woman over the pond to scrap what the people elected and put the party that lost the election

No diference to what was happen in South America only that over there was the army with the bless of USA

I guess that here we have too good to be worried about the proud and other things in politics.

Menzies.........yeah..."he could not see" that the "British Bulldog"running UK did not care less about Australia

I guess that we all see history in a diferent way, back to Land Rover topics

Labor have to get rid of rudd, they have no choice due to his meteoric fall from Kevin07 to now! Someones head has to fall from all the monumental stuffups.

    Who would win:

Abbott vs Krudd - Abbott (by a bees ****)
Abbott vs Gillard - Gillard (by LOTS)

Gillard will get most female & traditional labor votes, plus the novelty factor votes of first oz female PM.

Rudd takes credit for getting oz through GFC???? God, what a joke. Australian govt could have done NOTHING, and we would have got through gfc exactly the same as what we have done, and we would still have a massive surplus sitting in the bank. All he had to do was bank guarantee, which cost nothing anyways. Then he would have had tons of money in the bank to promise all sorts of things for this election. But no, he had to rush through very poorly thought out scams, I mean, schemes, which everyone took advantage of, just to appear to be doing something.

I hate labor, but I hate what they have done over the past 3 years even more. Australia could have been in such a better position. Health and education. Infrastructure. No, lets give money to harvey norman, dodgy insulation, dodgy hot water services, dodgy school buildings, boat loads of refugees, grrrrrrrrrrrr. To cover his losses he wants to bite the hand that feeds. Good thinking idiot.

Andrew Bolt for PM and Terry McCrann for finance minister.

Both Labour and the Coalition are as bad as each other. I just hope to heck that the Greens don't hold the balance of power after the federal election.

The country is if that happens!

Thatcher didn't develop any industry what she did was clean out a range of Government owned and union run industries, reduced Government bureaucracy and opened up the UK to international competition which required that British industry either re-organise itself or fail. Yes a lot have failed, but not upon the taxpayers pockets and rampant unionism has evaporated.

Had that not been done, the UK would not have survived the GFC.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I just am concerned for Australia's international image when someone who seems incapable of speaking even "in the street" Australian represents Australia.
