P plates no high-powered cars

OK Folks, it gets even sillier............:confused:

I just got off the phone from discussing the matter with the RAA in consultation with their legal department. Are you ready for this!!!!!!

My Daughter soon to get her "L's" will be allowed to learn to drive in my V8 D1, She can even sit for her license in my V8 D1, if she fails her test and stays on a Learners Permit she can drive the V8 D1 home but if she should pass her test then she will not be permitted to drive the V8 D1 home on her P1 License.
The RAA tell me that they advised the Government not to make the mistakes of other states and recommended a power to weight ratio restriction. But obviously the bureaucrats know better than the peak motoring organisation!

This is such a ridiculous situation...........
Now when I am on a holiday with the family and trying to avoid fatigue during a long trip I can not allow my daughter to drive the car she learnt in :twisted:

I am seething about this, just about to start writing letters to those who think they know better. :mad:

Nanny state? Kindy state more like it. Counting cylinder numbers is not a good way to gauge risk in a P plater's car. The number of passengers is probably a better risk indicator. I have been a young passenger in a Mini 1100 at 80MPH down a very steep hill and nearly pooed myself. The driver was (and surprisingly still is) mental with vehicles. His latest trick was to wind up a triple road train to 183km/h on the Nullarbor plain. Shows how mental doesn't correlate well with P plates either.

It would probably be better to give them unsafe cars in a crash not the other way round

I heard a comment once and it makes sense

If you had a big spike in the middle of your steering wheel that would poke you in the face in a crash you would drive a hell of a lot safer

Now i don't think p platers should have spikes on there steering wheels but if you know your going to die if you crash you mite just drive slower

And teenager have a bad habit of thinking they are indestructible

Your situation is the same that Victorian people have been in for three years.

The Victorian ones are a bit silly in that not only all V8s and turbocharged vehicles are on the list [except turbo-diesels, unless they have <8 cyls], but modifying an engine to increase its power output is also disallowed. Putting a VGT or even just an intercooler and wick adjustment on a Tdi would fall under such a modification.

Its scary what you see when you are looking....

recently I have seen:

1) a L-plater driving in a 100k zone with the adult fast asleep in the front passenger seat.
2) A L-plater with the sole adult in the back playing with a young kid.
3) another L-plater driving with his arm out the window, cigarette in hand and a can of soft drink in his lap.

And these adults are responsible for teach the up 'n coming drivers what habits?????

An unfortunate side effect of parents having to help their kids clock up the hours to complete their log books.... Driving instructors are teaching kids how to pass the test but family are teaching them how to drive..... no wonder we are having problems....

What a load of absolute bollocks! It should be like the motorcycle LAMS approved system ... power to weight ratio ... rather than no v8 or turbo vehicles.

We purchased a '97 Corolla for my soon to be P plater daughter about a month ago. 1.8L efi auto ... more than enough power to get into trouble with ... yet one of her friends recently lost his licence ... caught driving and early V8 manual D1 (3.5L ?) ... the Corolla eats it in acceleration and speed ... wtf !? :o

Me thinks the dickeads who are proposing these laws have no idea about that it is which they are presiding over.

A LAMS type system for P plate drivers would immediatley identify a vehicle to the authorities as being "P" legal or not ... but I would advocate better driver training before this.

I took a current commodore V6 6 speed manual ute for a spin recently ... :eek::eek: ... who needs a V8 :eek::eek:
