    I used to travel around a bit in mogs back when I was in the RAAMC (91-00) You will probably have the most capable camper on the planet!

    That's an interesting link Marshall - thanks. I liked the way they used cables to lift all 4 corners evenly.

    Loved this photo of the Unimog next to a quite sizable 6x6 Landie. Kinda dwarfs it!

    it takes (depending on the location of the pins

    a tricon which is roughly 6 feet long and normal width (3 of them join together to make a full size shipping container)

    or a specialised module which is made up on a pallet plate designed to fit the pins spacing on the mog.

    I think theres a couple kicking around amberly I can try to get pictures of if you like.

    they arent strictly identical theres numerous "individualities" between the 2 but nothing thats not insurmountable.

    I'll go searching for Tricon now and see what I turn up.

    Do you reckon they'd be a reasonable basis for a camper conversion structure, or are they insanely heavy/overengineered for that?

    What's the difference between the Aust & NZ vehicles? The NZ ones don't have a winch, for starters. Are they mechanically similar?

    yeah at about a ton plus per tricon Id call it over engineered but they are walk in...

    this is a tricon.


    this is 3 tricons in 20 foot configuration (but they dont have the twistlocs in the middle to hold them together.)



    what Id be doing is getting in touch with someone like Krisryinc and ordering 4 of the ISO pads locking them down on the deck of the mog then fabricating up a frame to form the floor and building it up from there.

    You want an S280 shelter





    These are used to build mobile work places that house high value assets.

    Once used extensively for communications shelters and other things like server rooms/offices for processing info etc. These shelters in a 280 medium are just short (appprox 250mm) of the full tray length of the Mog. They do not use the ISO container pockets but tie down rings. They have gone out of favour and now we see more shelters specifacally built to sit on the tray and use the ISO twist locks to save having to use tiedown straps/chains etc.

    If you can get an S280 medium you could attach the ISO corners, it would involve a bit of mucking about as you will have to make up the size difference. That would make for an easy attachment method.

    This crowd build containers for defence although it is no great secret like the Gichner shelter they use a rib and lamina skin much like building a weatherboard house or a sandwich panel contruction technique.

    The tricons are as the name suggests one thrid of a 20ft iso container. Too heavy as Dave said, it is probably 16 gauge sheetmetal (steel), too crude to start a habitable conversion.

    mechanically they are pretty much identical there's some minor differences in the electrical systems, the layout under the trays and the fuel system but not enough that you couldn't nut the differences if you had the instructions for one but were working on the others.

    SlugBurner - Thanks for those details on the S280. Have now found a number of articles on them via google, and they weigh about half of what a Tri-Con weighs.

    Any idea if you can buy them in Australia? Can't find anyone offering them for sale (via Google anyway).
