i can take some measurement tomorrow night if Dave does not get back to you
Hey Dave - I have a question on the Aust Army Unimogs, if you know anything about them.
I have taken an interest in a couple of Mogs for sale in Canberra, and they are ex NZ Army which are identical to our models I believe.
They are U1700L/38 models, with a tray on the back.
My question is about the "box" that looks like it would fit onto the locating pins in the photo below:
They look like locating pins for a standard container. Don't reckon they'd be for a 20 foot shipping container, as I'd say they'd be too wide to fit, and probably too long! I am guessing that the trays are around 3.8m long and 2.8m wide.
Do you have any knowledge of what containers might fit on this tray, or the dimensions of the pins etc?
Thanks
David
ps. I live about 5 Kms from the Woodside Army base (where they have many of the 1700L's), but they won't let me on the base unless someone from Defence vouches for me, so if you feel like vouching for me I can PM you the CO's phone details.....

hey mate.
they are commonly use to fit personal pods to the back so that you can cart troops on the back, on the normal roads at speed. there is also a storage pod that fits on if you have troops and stores to cart.

That'd be good - thanks.
Any idea what they put on the back? Generator units maybe? I am thinking that if there is a standard container size that just plops on there, it'd make a good base for a camper conversion (with a bit of oxy cutting for doors/windows/etc).
I remember rattling and shivering my way to a few cadet camps in the early 90's in the back of one. VERY harsh ride. I clearly remember the instruction never to use the canvas canopy hoops as hand rails in case the vehicle happened to be going under some trees at the time. Ouchy on the fingers.
Cheers
Slunnie
