    VICROADS says--

    that TWV189 is-
    INSPECTED-WRITTEN OFF

it isnt, its sitting in a driveway near Melbourne airport.
Just had a full AULRO mates report from Nicky whos say its a fine car,
and from his pics,, it is.

will the VIP $24 report tell me any more info?

    and,

if a written off car can be rebuilt and sold in VIC,, will it get a RWC in QLD?

Sorry I don't know QLD law.

I would assume though that if it is inspected and passed then it would be roadworthy.

You could get an RAVC inspection on it - they may be able to confirm or refute the write off???

    No and no...

A written off car is exactly that. If that Chassis and build number are in the register, then there is no hope. However, as an aside, there is nothing saying that the build plate etc have not been swapped to a different vehicle... In any case, you cant get it off the written off list. Simple as that.

Depends if it was a statutory or repairable write-off. A statutory write-off can never be re-registered and if its numbers turn up on a vehicle, then the regulatory authorities turn nasty. A repairable write-off may be repaired, and then submitted for inspection by an authorised write-off inspector. You will need to supply the invoices showing parts purchased and services provided and pay a substantial fee. The inspectors here in Brisbane are very fussy in my experience.

You need to establish just which sort of write-off it is and why it is still showing on the record. Bureaucratic error or just not been submitted for inspection yet, or an attempt to deceive.

    Bulletin 25 on this page

    Vehicle standards information : VicRoads

    says:

    "Written Off Vehicle
A Written Off Vehicle is a vehicle which because of damage has been assessed as either:

A Repairable Write Off, which is a vehicle that has been damaged to the extent that its salvage value plus the cost of repairing the vehicle for use on the road exceeds its market value; or

A Statutory Write Off, which is a vehicle that has been damaged to the extent that it must not be repaired and can only be used for parts. However, if the vehicle is a Statutory Write Off because of salt water immersion then no structural components or panels, including the side doors, from the Statutory Write Off can be used to repair another vehicle.

A Statutory Write Off cannot be re-registered and the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the Statutory Write Off cannot be reused."

What sort of Write Off is it Pedro?

and to go back to klappers post,,
from a "dodgy brothers"point of view---
why would you attach a plate from a car thats been written off to a good car?

How do you know it is a write off?

The wording Vic Roads uses SHOULD mean that the write off report/certificate has either the words 'Repairable' or 'Statutory' on it somewhere.

A check tomorrow with Vic Roads may be the best bet.

    Numerous reasons.

Perhaps the owner thought that that was the easiest way to get around it.. Who knows. Again, like others have stated, you need to find out which type of write off it is and then proceed from there. Surely there would be help forth coming from Vic roads and you rang them up inquiring about the vehicle number etc.

I think from that email I sent that it should have a VIV certificate.
