    It could be worse

I recently put 80 litres of petrol into a near-empty diesel tank of my td5 disco(the warning light was on) and drove nearly 20km before I realised. Yeah - I'm stupid (especially having had only diesels for 13 years now).

I siphoned most of the fuel (could only get about 65 l out), removed the fuel filter and used the first key position to run the in-tank pump several times to drain the rest into a strategically-placed bucket. Then filled a new filter with diesel, 20l diesel in the tank, and use dthe first key position half-a-dozen times to get diesel into the lines, then started it up. A few misfires and a cloud of smoke and it was running (roughly for the first minute).

Bottle of diesel additive and a full tank and it's humming. A mate with an older petrol Landy will score the slightly dieselly petrol to use a bit at a time.

I reckon I dodged a bullet - there seem to be plenty of horror stories out there.

Just use it. Common practice in the US snow belt to add a mix of petrol into diesel vehicles through winter. If you have any reservatons, get 4 litres of cheap engine oil from Colesworths and add it to the mix.

I did same in my tdi Disco, drained out most after I ran for 10km's.
Than drained most with help of the local RAA.
I filled tank with Diesel this time and after some white smoke and puffing, it ran like a pro.
The RAA mechanic who is a retired mechanic for Komatsu tractors told me many old farmers do it every tank, like a litre per tank. It gives the injectors a clean and more poke in car in general.
I must say, it drove much faster than before.

Thinking of doing it again but only a litre or so.

Ignore all them. Running that mix will end the world. Dump it in my fuel tank and it will be safely disposed of.

    Mix it with sawdust.
    Best firelighter you can have.
    Works a treat!!!!
I personally wouldnt risk using it in a motor, but if you are only shandying some in each tank it shouldnt do any harm.

Many years ago I had a petrol engined car with 2, 12 gallon fuel tanks. One was filled from a 44gallon drum before we discovered it was diesel. We then filled the other tank with petrol and left both taps open and away we went. Did not notice a big difference. It still did 70mph on the highway and went from Tocumwall to Brisbane and back to Melbourne.
