    Thats quite funny.

The DSG is even quicker, its their auto version where they have essentially 2 gear boxes in one, so when you are in 1st, 2nd gear is ready and waiting and it just shifts so smoothly and quick.
The new Golf has a 7 speed DSG.
I think Subaru with its great motors and made in Japan stuff is still jiggling with a 4 speed box.
Imagine the speed and power they would generate, now they do a flat four diesel motor as well.

You know for 55K you could get an E46 M3. While good, at the end of the day the VW is an expensive hatchback. The M3 is a race car.

Looking at similar for my wife. They have just released (last couple of weeks) their GTD. Apparently quicker than a GTI and more torque, but diesel, so way way more economical. The one I saw at Springwood was FULLY loaded and on road for $55 grand.

Something to consider. I walked around the second hand section at another VW dealership looking for second hand GTI's. Salesman said none available and that they do sell very quickly. He does get offered a few for trade in but rejects a lot of them after the workshop has had a look. Apparently Some GTI's are bought by hoons.Fancy that. Gti's and Subaru WRX'x in his words have a cult like folowing and some of them get thrashed.

Jesus wept! 55 big ones for a bloody Volkswagen! Phineas T. Barnum has once again been proven correct.

There are people, Brian, who would say this when reffering to a Land Rover which is still considered to be a tractor with a bigger body!... My father still insists all thats happened since he drove them on the station in the early-mid 50's is that theyve "pulled the radiator forwards- making less room to put stuff"! He acknowledges theyre a great 4wd but doesnt see them as a family or anything but work car- thinks they should be priced as such.

The R32 has a one of the bes exhaust notes going around on a new car, but have you seen how much it weighs? Not exactly a 'hot hatch' at over 1,500 kg.
