Keeps noise down.. allegedly.
Have a 2003 130. Took the heavy, insulated plastic cover off the top of the engine the other day and thought to myself - Can I leave this off?
Seems to be in Australian environment all it would do is keep the engine warmer!
Thoughts?

I dont have mine on![]()
Same as the 300tdi. It's only to absorb some of the tappet noise.
When I bought my Disco, the Landy mech here in SA said its good to see it still has the cover on it, shows more care has been taken.
He also said it shields some of the tappet noise.
Might use some to put in my ears as its still bloody noisy.![]()
Mine has been off for years, but it's in the garage if I ever need to put it back on.
I was once told that it is to keep the engine warm for longer once it is turned off so that it is more likely to be started again warmed up.![]()
tirf it, and dont forget to take the bit off the back as well..
far as Ive been able to work out its just there to make it pretty and to add time to repair works.
