I think whatever gets the landy brand out there and shows the toyo's what a mistake they made has got to be a good thing
If my RRC was up to scratch I'd be giving them a call.

And your office Jockey quote is any better, or MickS's comment about the staff being feeble minded.
I'm with Taff here. How many of you have actually met any of the guys who work for the magazine.
I have met a few and spent a week with them and they are actully pretty decent people, without chips on their shoulders as some of you would believe....
Maybe the mag is a bit biased, but at least a few of us are trying to increase the profile of LR's in the mags, rather than having a row on the internet, about how great there LR is compared to anything else.
I think they do a pretty decent job tbh. If you want a LR are the best mag, by one of the generic LR mags...
Its not so much them being "feeble minded" that concerns me it is their sheer ignorance and incomptance, particularly when it comes to any thing with a Land Rover badge on it. Few staff articles are not just advertising for their advertisers. Roothy, love him or hate him, is the only breath of fresh air in the mag.
Cheers

If the staff are baiting, then they better expect some comeback. My comments are not against any one on the forum or those who do wish to write for the mag, but against the manner in which the magazine's staff are trying to solicit articles.
The mags of the 80s and 90s (I used to read Bushdriver, Overlander, 4x4 Australia) weren't derogatory towards a single marque or brand, except when the reviewer had to be critical about negative points on a product/vehicle. 4x4 action seems continually derogatory in the way they have cheap shots at Rovers, and don't even try to get their information correct when reviewing the vehicles. The quality of the journalism just isn't up there.
Finally, I don't see why I would need to have met the staff to know how they write, maybe they are great blokes who all covet Landies. Great. That doesn't come across in the mag, and since I am reading said mag, thats how i'll judge that mag. Chip on the shoulder or not.
Best mag on the market.Hang out for it each month and the vids are great. They always have somthing regarding LandRovers in them.Even the last vid had a Landy ute smashing through the river on the old Tele track 5th vehicle through. Some people just need to open there eyes a little.
I read the mag, think its great (usually). Yes I own a landy and I love it, it gets me anywhere I need to go and many places I dont need to as well. It doesn't have a massive lift or huge wheels, and if it was up to scratch (read: actually turned off with the ignition, didn't have a few rust spots here and there) then I would put it in for sure to show people how capable a 25yr old truck with little mods can do.
I know people bag out Landies, so what. I hear landy people bagging out toyotas and nissans all the time. I go away with mates on the weekend, some have landies, some have toyo's, nissans, and some have some extremely capable subaru's. We all have a ball and just like getting out there and enjoying it and watching what the other cars can do. At the end of the day, who cares what you drive as long as your out there having fun.
I have met a few of the guys from the mag, and a mate of mine used to shoot for them. They are all great guys who just love 4wding. And yeah there are a lot of ads, but look at any mag and you'll see the same. A magazine is a buisness, and without the ads there wouldn't be a magazine.
There are a heap of awesome landies on here, why not put them in and show everyone what they can do instead of whinning on the net about a comment that was aimed at getting a response from you lot.
I had my (ex-) red 110TD5 in the mag, whilst traveling SA and VIC during 2005. But don t see the point doing a story about the 100" in 4WD Action at this moment. There are many other great magazines out there. The german OFFROAD did a similar mistake regarding the Land Rover brand long time ago....didn t work out well for them in the long haul. marc
Hey **** mag or not (i buy it and read it). they are just like any other 4wder, having a go at LR's. Hell I have a go at toyota drivers and nissans. and its all in good fun. not every 4x4 is perfect. defenders arent perfect, or they wouldnt leak, disco 3 and 4's arent perfect or they wouldnt have random electrical gremlins. LC 200 and the oil problem, 79 with the wider front track, and thats the ones they i hear 3rd hand, word of mouth. How many toyota farmer owners have gone to nissan since the intro of the V8 diesel. I know of only one but, im sure there is more. LC still have the leaf spring in the 21 century, nissan with a gutless 4.2 TD and problematic 3.0L. I was, for one race, a navi in a big nissan ute and the amount of work (around $15g) just to the engine and it only came out with 125rwkw. What the? I think i could do that with a VNT turbo, larger IC, remap and exhaust, and increased boost on a TD5, but i wouldnt race the car in something like OC or ironman challenge. the electric just might let it down......
This mag chip or not on the shoulder, it was just a bait to see if we (LR owners) will respond to get in the mag. Lets face it, we arent, like some have said, into penis extensions, but we have good 4x4'S, for camping and touring. LR owners arent into showing off our 4x4, and we arent the best selling 4x4 in the BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, AUSTRALIA. I say get into the mag, show the rest of the 4wd community they are good cars. Maybe more people will buy them, after all LR dosnt advertise well.
Who cares if your car isnt ready, mine wasnt and I did it. They just wont photograph that part. All i hope is someone sees my car and thinks, "I want one like that". They go buy one, becomes more popular, blah blah blah....
Hey and Roothy grew up in a LR family.
my 2 cents worth.
Have to disagree with you there Vlad. Actually their DVD's lately have been pretty bloody good - a massive improvement on what they used to be. They are really the only reason why I buy the mag these days. If I want to read decent articles about vehicle comparisons etc there are much better mags out there.
But I've found that, particularly over about the last 3 issues, there has been a huge jump in the quality of the DVD's - they've got very professional in how they put these together now. Haven't seen any articles on Landrovers yet in their new improved format, but that's only a matter of time and what I have seen has been far more interesting that anything else out there, including 4WDTV.
Cheers .........
