Thread: Worry after purchasing my 2001 Freelander

At just under 70,000km the timing belt is not due to be replaced by the service schedule so unless a change of belt has been negotiated as part of the price then there is no reason for it to be replaced. The dealer should repair the oil leak.

PS`- in the UK the belt is to be replaced at 75000 miles - so in the 110,000 - 120,000km mark but personally I would not like a rubber belt to go that long and do it a little earlier at around 100,000km.

Belts need to be replaced by time too. 68000km is very low for a 9 year old car so you'll probably find the timing belt change is overdue by time.

Why does it need new tyres? Have you checked the old ones (especially the rears)? If they're badly scalloped, it's not a good sign.

Thanks for your reply, I havent pick up the car yet. they are doing service on the car. I will double check with the dealer when i pick up the car next Sat.

Thanks for you reply. The rear one is 60% good i think. cannot say badly scalloped.
And it was only one owner, owned by a 56 year old man. Wish the car wont break in the coming three years.

G'Day Mate, I agree with everything Garrycol and Scouse have said. I also own a 2001 V6 Freelander and I run it on Premium 95 as recommended by LandRover, if you look inside the fuel cap you will see the fuel advisory label. Be warned though Rovers V6's are thirsty!!

Camshaft belt replacement is 6yrs or 120000km, whichever comes first.
