    Rego question

hi guys ; I've just got my rego papers for my range rover with the slip attached and labeled "changes to light motor vehicle tax".

from 9 August 2010, a one off increase in motor vehicle tax applies for certain light vehicles. there is a provision for certain energy efficient vehicles to be exempt from tax increase. more info see here..

    Light motor vehicle weight tax

cut long story short ,both my vehicles rego arrive nearly 2-3 weeks apart and I can't really afford to register 2 x vehicles at the moment , the range rover really is in needs of urgent repairs , brake oil leaking , tx fluid leaking , and oil cooler lines leaking etc etc etc. I want to get all these things done before advertising for sale.

If I let the rego run out and decide to do the repaires later , can i obtain a blue slip then and re-register it at a later date ????

Hmmm. I haven't heard about that extra tax!! Just more crap we have to deal with....

Anyway, once your registration expires beyond three months the RTA will cancel (the registration) and a blue slip is required to get you back on the track. They'll also want you to hand the old plates back too...

    All the best,

    Matt.

Any idea on the cost of handing the old rego plates and re-obtaining blue slip at a later date??

DB : may have to take all the goodies off the vehicle and take it back to standard height before re-obtaining blue slip to get it ready for sale , this is the only way I see around the engineering issues

Sound like you've got a bit of work to do on the Range Rover but have you considered 6 monthly rego? Call your CTP insurer, get a quote & pay for 6 months CTP, then when you go to pay your rego it'll pick up that you've only paid 6 months CTP and adjust your rego fee accordingly..

Khos , if i were you I would not let the rego lapse.
A blue slip check is a lot more rigorous than a green slip, and may question the legality of your tyres, springs etc.

No cost of handing them in, just your wasted time standing in a queue

Pink slips are about $25 and blue ones about $35.

Before you change the springs, have a shot at getting a blue slip first - most guys are pretty reasonable and the difference between the two inspections is that the 'blue' one is to check the vehicles identity - chassis numbers, wheels base, weight and so on.

I just can't afford to register both vehicles at the moment Phillip. the tyres shocks and springs will most probably be replaced with OME ones at a later date ones vehicle is back to standard height and all mechanical repairs are done.

Handing the plates back costs nothing. I you want to keep the plates you will have to pay a anual fee to put them into hold. You have 3 months from when the rego expires eg for repairs ect to get a pink slip. a blue slip will require a new rego insection weigh bridge ticket and all the fees included. ps you will still have to pay the full rego backdated forn when the rego expired.......
