As a matter of interest...what type of grease should you use when re-packing/ servicing elect winches?Quote:

i used Castrol LMM, a tube of which i already had at home, its black/grey and sticks to EVERYTHING! have a few rags around to clean up after
good question discodancer, it made me look at a tub of Castrol boating grease I have. Used for the boat trailer hubs. It is lithium based, water resistant, contains a powerful corrosion inhibitor, blah, blah, blah ....... oh and, not recommended for continuous underwater operations. But still pretty good from what I've noticed.
ps exactly which parts do you grease?
I have had a Chinese winch for about 5 years now. Have used it a fair bit and in some tough winching. The winch sounds growly but has been fine. The solenoids gave some grief,so brought the type used by Tigerz winches. Was brought from the bloke who sells the winches. Since then no problems. As the case for most low mount winches, it is not real fast when winching. My son has a high mount Warne winch and it is nearly twice as quick when winching. But I`m not competing so a bit slower and getting out of trouble is fine with me.
