Start waving at all the Commodores then. Then again, perhaps not.

When I'm out in the Commodore, no one waves. They're usually young blokes with their heads on backwards. Their seats are usually tilted so far back they probably can't see the road through the windscreen anyway. The curse of driving a bogan car.
When I'm out in the Landrover, very few wave. As I said, they're mostly Discoveries and generally not into old Landrovers I see very few old Landrovers.
When I'm out in the Mercedes Fintail and I pass another Fintail (and usually we don't know each other), we both wave at each other with gusto and big smiles on our faces. The fintail also attracts lots of admiring glances.
It's odd some cars attract certain peronality drivers.
I can hardly wait until I get out in the 101. I wonder what reaction that will attract?

I can understand that. Since joining this forum, I've seen some very nice D2's. I might consider replacing the Commodore with a D2. The Commodore has been so reliable (380,000kms, 16 years and still going strong). I wonder what the reliability of a D2 is?

Cheers mate!!! Good run out of the old dunnydore ehh? Well done. As reliable as a D2, well a Commodore hire car took over from my Disco when the fuel line chafed in the Snowys. A VE. Nice car but a mite thristy and a bit plasticy. You are right with the fellowship classic car enthusiasts share, I have a '69 Volvo 1800S, i'm on my own when I'm out in the 1800, only about 300 in Australia, but when I pass another old Volvo......well we almost jump out of the cars madly waving at each other.

I thought the VE was a bit plasticy and thirsty myself. That's why I stuck with the VR. Hoon car of choice. It's towed the Landrover to the mechanics many times. The Commodore has only been towed (by a Ford) twice. ECU failure both times. Bloody electronics.

But I do love the Landrover (SIII Stage 1 hybrid), the bitsa heap of scrap metal it is. I've had it since about 1992 and I can't remember anyone waving at me in a friendly manner whilst driving it.

Volvo 1800S. They turn my head too. A true classic. I often see someone driving one about the place.
When they produced the Roger Moore "The Saint", Jaguar was approached to supply a car. They politely refused and Volvo supplied the 1800. Jaguar didn't make the same mistake for the Ian Ogilvy version. Volvo sales improved noticeably while Roger drove one.

As for dunny dores,had a few,the best being a VS Clubby,should never have sold it:(

I can't believe how many people think Defenders are all old,that is haven't been able to buy a new one for around 10yrs or more.....talk about ignorant.:eek:

My youngest Landy is a 1981. Pre Defender.
I also didn't mention Counties, Freelanders and Range Rovers. How remiss of me. Please excuse me. I will, of course, attempt to educate myself to the more modern types but, if they have that box of dark magic (electronics), it will be a tough ask.

The father in law borrowed my Defender a few weeks ago because he needed to tow a trailer. My wife/his daughter was with him and he asked her whether she knew any of these people that were waving to him in other Defenders.

She explained to him that driving a Defender will get you waved at from other Defenders and that you need to wave back!!

Luckily the Mrs was there to wave back so that our car didnt get a bad reputation.

I would have loved to have seen two TDI 130's having a drag from the traffic lights, it must have been a sight.

Over here in NSW they now have anti hoon laws and they take your vehicles away if caught drag racing.

I would hazard a guess that if a coppa had seen this little race he wouldn't know what to do as how could he go before the Court and say on the bible these two old Landie diesels were a public hazard because of hoon racing and excessive speed. He would be laughed out of the court if he tried.

Maybe that is the answer for all the kiddies over here so they can keep street racing and not lose their vehicles to the coppa's. They should all sell their WRX's and old Holdunga V8's and buy TDI Defenders and race them, they would never get busted for excess speed.

Time to leave this discussion now I think. :angel:

I confess to having laughingly challenged and then dragged off a 300Tdi Defender in a traffic lights grand prix when in my County. Having a V8 has its benefits.
