Gday All,
I am continually amazed at how airfrieght is charged..2 examples
We recently needed a hydrolic motor for the boat, were told no new motors in Australia, closest motor singapore..The motor in question weighs 85-90kgs,so when quoted cost to Darwin..$2700-3000..
Now I know its heavy, but I could get a return flight to singapore, and bring it back excess luggage for less than $2500..
Another boat was in with a failed hydrolic pump, these were available in Perth, weighs about 45kgs..$1750 airfrieght to Darwin..same deal could fly to Perth return and bring excess luggage for cheaper..
Should just book a 1 way seat and sit the parts on the seat...
Cheers Ean

Won't help with the Singapoer one but now that Toll has taken over Perkins the best land freight into Gove is TNT Road Express Ean.
Have you used them before? You do need an account either for sender or receiver though.

Gday Stuuu,
Yep have used them a few times, they do a good service from SA-NT..
I just find it hard to believe that an item being airfrieghted can cost more than the cost of a seat on the plane...I suppose I should be asking why aren't there any hydrolic motors in Australia!!!.
Oh well the joys of being in business..
Hows Gove? rained in Darwin yest whilst we were fitting the motor to the winch and has rained since I left the harbour this morning...
Cheers Ean
What make of motor is it? Are you sure there is not an Australian distributor? Maybe even adapt your machine to use a motor that is available.
It is hard to accept air freight charges. A passenger who weighs more than the item can be sent for far less. And airlines go broke!!!!
Horrible examples I have had to pay are a set of books for a Stankoexport cylindrical grinder, A$220 from Poland to Brisbane, and A$125 for two fog light sealed beams from San Jose to Brisbane. The beams cost US$25 and I had asked for them to be sent air-mail via USPS. The merchant sent them FedEx.
URSUSMAJOR
They are a Calzoni, high torque, low speed radial piston motor..Vickers make an equivilant but they dont have any in stock (or so im told) due to them being not very common any more...Have looked at the adapting angle, but will be far cheaper to buy a different brand winch that uses a more common style hydraulic motor..
Todays list price for these motors is $11,400 landed sydney/Melb..I can source new winches complete from China for $15,000 each, although not real sure of the brand..
Its the problem when things give good service for 20yrs, the parts dry up before the whole unit is due to be replaced..
The thing is im sure someone has a heap of these motors or parts that suit them lying around in a shed somewhere..Will worry about it at the end of the season when time permits..
Thanks and Cheers Ean
