Zig Zag Bog Hole Claims Another.

Heading back from a drive out to the Glow worm Tunnel this afternoon we were stopped at Bungelborri campground by a couple of guys on motorbikes who needed a hand getting a stuck vehicle out of a puddle about ten minutes down a track.
As they led us onto the track to the Lost City my daughter and I both knew which "puddle" we were going to. The infamous Bog Hole that has claimed a few of us from this forum on past trips to the area, myself included.(Thanks to Isuzu Too-Eh for getting me out).
And sure enough, this time a pretty new looking Prado was sitting in the middle of said "puddle" with about 3 inches of water throughout and had been there for a few hours. Sorry, no pics from us. It was nearing dusk, bloody cold and we just wanted to get the job done and get home. But as we were about to start the recovery the police arrived and took videos. Also the occupants of the Prado were taking lots of pics so some may appear elsewhere.
The police were of the opinion that it was a write off due to the amount of water in the vehicle even though it was still running. But once we had it out we didnt hang about and left them to it. Goes to show that it always pays to check the depth first, especially if you're by yourself.
We felt sorry for the poor buggers, they were cold, wet, boghole smelly and their Prado was stuffed but at the same time I had a bit of a laugh knowing the history of the infamous "Zig Zag Boghole".
Maybe their next vehicle should be a D3 hey DiscoWeb.

There are so many bog holes around that area that have claimed so many vehicles and hydrauliced and damaged motors. Most of them look innocent too.

Last year I was riding the Spanish Steps track from Bungleboori on my MTB, and riding through one of the puddles on the main track had me down to the bikes cross bar!
    Cheers

Yeah, it's a decieving looking puddle. Also you drive through a couple of much larger puddles which are nowhere near as deep before you get to this one so you're not expecting it to be any different.
Although the bypass track that is starting to appear around it should set off alarm bells.

    hmmm that puddle...
At first glance it looks quite innocent:

After grading with two Salisbury ploughs, it is rather shallow...

shallow under the diffs that is...

Unfortunately,if people start making insurance claims from around there, the tracks will just be graded smooth.Police video to report a hazard maybe????

I doubt the grading, if that happens it won't be because people get stuck it will be for some other reason, fire access etc. I think that area has a lot of VCL, and Lands are really strapped for cash.

As for the police if they attended and videoed most likely some form of offence was involved, don't forget them tracks under the Aust road rules would be classed as a road. So technically speeding, dangerous driving etc can all be enforced.

Cops would have been bored I bet they get alot of calls for vehicles stuck in there.

I got a call at work the other day for a group of blokes who went down the bridle track ill-equipped and took a side track and got stuck on saturday morning with no recovery gear. I got the call at lunch time on sunday. They had been trying to get it out for a day and a half, not sure if they got it out, we didnt have a 4wd available to go out to them and our trucks are only standard so we would have gotten stuck aswell.

Just goes to show how important it is to take the time to get out and check the depth before plunging in.
