I have never been, but heard alot about the place. Would be a shame if it closed as the others have said, we need more 4wd parks like that one, especially in NSW.

The problem is in order to get enough land to make it fun you need to get away from the major cities to get the price of the land down.

That's what Jeep 4x4 park do here out of Auckland. The 4WD clubs take it in turns to patrol the park each weekend. For that the drivers get to play for free, and drag people out of the muck.

Done a number of patrols now

Insurance isn't such a headache since people sign a waiver of responsibility before they enter the track. They also agree to abide by the rules of the Park owners, so if they aren't and they get hurt, then it's their problem.

Unfortunately, waivers mean bugger all here. Properties like that are still expected to have the insurance.

I suppose another way to do it would be to only allow club groups to use the land at a small fee that way they are covered by their own insurance.

    Oh. That's a shame

Perhaps another way is, as you suggest, to require them to insure themselves. Then that starts getting too complicated.

ummm. They buy insurance for the period they are there, as part of the entry fee, but club members get a discount if their insurance covers them while they are in the park. Could act as an incentive for people to join their local club.

Such waivers are not worth a knob of goat poo. They have no legal standing. You can't waive your right to take action for recompense for wrong or injury caused by another's negligence or actions.

Actually its a waiver of those who are negligent from taking action against the park operator, which is the opposite of what you just said. It says that they will cover themselves for insurance, not that the park operator will cover them. And it will stand up. It is a contract between the park operator (which is a private operation on private land) and the user of the park.

Then again, we can do that here because we have ACC and you don't. We can let people be idiots, hurt themselves, and so stupid stuff because the govt. picks up the pieces.

The last I heard (within the last few weeks) is that it has been on the market for a long time and possibly ADF is going to purchase for training.

Therefore closed to the rest of us.

Like others have said though, could all be rumours and nothing substantial.

I have spoken to my insurer and solicitor. It does appear the waiver will not stand.
The problems with insurance really arise when money is involved. I have to set a fee to recoup the maintenance and energy cost etc.
Club insurance may cover them but then could turn onto my public liability.
There is duty of care and then neglect. Above all, we cannot insure against illegality under any circumstances. We all know what this means.

Easiest way may be to purchase a few hundred acres of **** country and keep it all well away from my core business.
