When my wife still had a QLD licence, we went to a pub in Perth...

Door Gorilla: Can I see some ID please
Wife: Here you go (QLD driver's licence)
DG: Sorry I cannot accept this - I need to see your passport (must have though she was from OS)
W: That is a QLD drivcer's licence and is a valid form of ID anywhere in AU
DG: Long hard look at both sides before finally letting her in...
I wonder what the gate guard would have thought of the pre-80's Qld. Licence. A small square of grey cardboard issued for 10 years and usually folded into four to fit in a wallet. After a few years these usually deteriorated into four separate pieces of sweat stained faded pulp. Experienced traffic police would cup their hands to receive one from a victim.

When we were in UK, some tart in a bank told me did not recognize my Qld licence. I said that is not surprising, as I have not shown it to you before.

Three of us handed over our QLD licenses at a bar in Texas. The poor mexican guy didn't know what to do. He went and got the manager and eventually they took a copy of them, just to cover their arses. Luckily I still got my beer

The qld licenses may be comparitively cheap at the moment, but soon they will be the most expensive in the country, just like our regos...

Err - a 5 year licence in SA is currently $155.

So by 2014 when the Qld licence hits $152, they will STILL be cheaper than here. And you can guarantee that the SA licence will have gone up by then.

BTW - A Victorian renewal is $162.20 for 10 years. A NSW renewal is $153 for 5 years.

I need say nothing I believe!

Bud TINGWELL was also in this series...

(I did love Catweazle... for those who have never had the pleasure...

Catweazle is a British television series, screened in the UK on ITV in 1970 and 1971. There were two seasons, the first with 12 episodes and the second with 13, all of 25 minutes each.

The series was broadcast in Britain, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Germany, Australia, Sweden, Norway, and Czechoslovakia.

The series featured Geoffrey Bayldon as the title character, an eccentric, dishevelled and smelly (but lovable) old 11th century wizard who accidentally travels through time to the year 1969 and befriends a young red-headed boy, nicknamed Carrot (Robin Davies), who spends most of the rest of the series attempting to hide Catweazle from his father and farmhand Sam. Meanwhile Catweazle searches for a way to return to his own time whilst hiding out in 'Castle Saburac', a disused water tower, with his familiar, a toad called Touchwood.

Catweazle mistakes all modern technology for powerful magic (see also Clarke's third law), particularly 'elec-trickery' (electricity) and the 'telling bone' (telephone).

It inspired the Boo Radleys song, Catweazle.
The first series was released on Region 2 DVD on 23 May 2005, with a short reunion documentary "Brothers in Magic" and audio commentaries on selected episodes by Carpenter, Bayldon, Davies and Executive Producer Joy Whitby. The second series was released on 29 August 2005. A third series was in the works, but was never put past draft stage.

    Hi,
I think it a pity that we can't extract the 'best' from each State regulations/registration/licences and make the whole thing 'National'.
It is a ridiculous mish-mash at the moment.
    [still on soapbox]
Need to do the same with education, health and 'National' parks.
    [dismount soapbox]
    cheers

Tis the joys of being a "Federation" of different colonies.

Never underestimate the money grabbing antics of a politician
I'd be happy to eat my words, but the QLD government can't keep to a budget to save them selves, and Anna Blight is the biggest money grabber of them all.
