Malcoms brother was interviewed of ABC radio today,he explained how the accident occured.
Malcom had a bad habit of getting out of the vehicle and leaving it running travelleing by itself in low range. He would do this whilst turning taps on,throwing meat to the crocs in their enclosures etc.
Malcom was found crushed between the door and door jamb of his vehicle. He was either getting in or out when the door hit a tree trapping him and stalling the vehicle. The accident happened at the end of the previous day,he was found some 10 hours later.
SAD.

I am just lost for words after reading that....

Malcolm Douglas
This bloke was my hero. How ironic that he devoted much of his life how to survive in the bush only to be killed by his own vehicle pinning him to a tree. The news reports say that it was fairly flat country. Did he put his handbrake on? A lot of blokes in the bush don't bother in flat country, which most of Australia is. Driving up to a gate, don't bother with handbrake, get out, open gate, back in, drive through, back out, shut the gate, back in, drive off. Usual procedure.

Truly a sad and tragic loss.
I too have had the pleasure of meeting Malcolm on a few occasions, and have travelled to remote locations with him a couple of times. I learnt more about the Australian bush from Malcolm than from anyone else I have ever known.
One of the true Australian bushies.
RIP Malcolm, and sincere condolences to his family.
