Turns out he has a Chevy V8 diesel coupled to a Hino 6spd truck gear box under the bonnet. Now that's a serious 4wd. Also has the usual extras lockers etc.

How much room did he have under the bonnet ?

Before my last Disco, I had an '85 F100 with a 6.5 Chev V8 diesel in it, with a Ford C6 auto hanging off it. Was a good combination, except could have used an extra gear (overdrive). Plenty of torque and surprisingly good on fuel, provided you kept it below a certain speed (hence the need for another gear).

There's a very nice Landcruiser 80 series wagon kicking around Kal with the turbo version of what I had - not sure what transmission it's mated to.

Have often wondered how one of these would go in a Defender.
