Well not only did the old ute have a rusty fuel tank it also has blown a head gasket. But stranger than fiction and seems meant to be. A complete top end gasket set for a 4bb1 was for sale on E Bay and surprise surprise has been brought by me.
So if it is only a gasket I`II be soon going again.

Picked up the gasket set tonight on the way home. Got it from a mob called Auto surplus and are in Mitcham Vic. Have been there a loooong time ago for some thing I can`t recall. Still it would be a place to ring and see for old Land rover parts. Phone is 9873 3566.

Have started to replace the head gasket. Got to the bit were you undo the head bolts and well to say the were not tight is on the money. I could undo them using a breaker bar and one hand. Nearly fell over with the first one. had a two handed grip on the old breaker bar and gave it a good heave, as you should have too. At this point you may guess I realised the bolts wern`t that tight. So after getting the head of the block it was evident that the head being loose had caused the gasket to fail. It had failed between 3 and 4 cylinders. So tomorrow I will clean things up and put the head back on and hopefully tight enough this time.
