Mitsubishi Broken Chassis

Personally I think the biggest problem is that people have been led to believe that they need all the offroad crap that suppliers sell to travel across Australia like twin carriers and bigger bars and side steps and lift kits etc etc that do nothing but add weight and make the vehicle more unstable.You only need to browse through 4WD action to see all the rubbish they sprouk and mods they get done from companys they then write about to see why people are misled.Len Beadel drove all over this side of this country with nothing more than a series landy and a few petrol tins of fuel. Thats a good point Pat, was only talking about this to a mate yesterday as Im planning a Cape Trip in about 18 months. Most of the crap you see loaded onto these 4wd's, Im sure, never gets used. As you say it only adds to extra weight on the vehicle.

I loved his story of the high speed crossing of the Simpson in his mates Patrol with no spares and IIRC the only tucker they had was a packet or two of chips :lol2:

Yep I've been thinking about doing a soapbox rant about this for a while!! Especially as most 4x4's have such little useful load. (and the cost of all the crap)

Not sure you are 100% correct there Pat.

A few years ago (well a lot of years ago) we had to fix 21 flat tyres on 3 vehicles in 3 days crossing the Simpson Desert.

2 spares in each vehicle would have meant that we could have waited till the evening camp on most days before we got the repair kits out.

BTW: Before you comment all the tyres on each vehicle were brand new when we left Sydney.

I would say that is pure luck, I have only had 2 flats, both of them have been on the camper though, I take 2 spares and a lot of what you call useless crap, mainly for just in case and yes a lot of it doesn't get used, but it's there just in case.

You are right Pat but it is very disapointing.
I sold my d3 because of the many major component failures to
go to a new Mitsubishi Challenger. It looking like they are
just as bad as the D3 for reliability:twisted:

Hi All

I have a ml triton and no chassis failure yet:D I like to carry a few tools and two spares and a uhf. The non standard stuff on the triton is a pair of spotties - that's it.

The best tool kit I have ever seen is an esky with cold beer:) and a deck of cards, not only are the fire extinguishers cold but with the boonet up and a cold beer not many people drive past and usually you can get some solution. If there's no traffic in the place that your stuck then you all you need to do is start playing solitaire, there's always someone will pop up and try to tell you how to play it :):D
