Most excellent long lasting defolient with no side effects (as long as you are far far away from the application area)........

Another good one is that Monsanto are purposely importing and developing new weeds to boost product sales. Plenty of people out there perpetuating that one.

If it is found that round up is as toxic as reported and Monsato are aware of this I can see a repeat of the James Hardie cover up.

Going back to 1988, when I was in the Uni we use glyphosate 360 to suppress kikuyu
in the rotation of pastures in the dairy farms.

I just wonder if there is any residue of glyphosate in the milk.

Paraquat was one of the dangerous herbicides used as an alternative to glyphosate 360.
I remember that was particular dangerous to the person that was fumigating the crops. It causes cancer and Parkison among other diseases.

With all this talk of residual toxins in the environment, I'm a little stressed.

I'think that I need a coffee, soy latte of course, just for my health!

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Only restricted use time and temperature due to the active ingredient being able to be carried by inversion air currents to off-target plant species many kms away for several days after spraying in warm weather, often damaging grape vines which are very suscepible.

Long time ago I did equipment maintenance for a company that contracted to set out field trials for agricultural chemical makers. Some of this experimental stuff was frightening. The contractors technical staff wore full suits with breathing apparatus and sometimes remote air supply when applying some compounds and would warn us greasy fitters to get well away and don't let any of this stuff get on your skin, it will kill you. Machinery had to be hosed down before leaving the site in many cases and certainly before maintenance/repairs. The compounds were full strength and diluted and measured with laboratory precision. These were scientific trials after all.

My thoughts were that they are possibly going to sell this stuff to cane farmers with little English and who are illiterate or semi-literate in English at least.

One can imagine the scenario. Two Italian cane farmers in shorts and felt hat, barefoot, mixing the stuff up with water in a cut off fuel drum with their arms. "How mucha you putta in, Luigi" "Mario, I putta in duo billycans." " Mario, some she good, more she better. You putta in some more".

GM canola will be in pest proportions if its use becomes widespread and it is Roundup resistant. You only have to notice the amount of canola growing along roadsides and streams now from grain spilt from harvest trucks and carried down waterways

I did the Cert IV in chemical application etc at tafe cause I deliver the course, we used to, to kids at school.

The instructor was telling us how he had this agronomis come in to do the cert III for work and how the agronomist had an angry farmer bring this drum of chemical into the shop and slam it on the counter and demand his money back. Agronomist asks why. Farmer tells him its not as strong as the previous batch he brought. Agronomist asks how he could possibly know that. Farmer says "This time I mixed it, it didnt make my fingernails fall off" Farmer was mixing it in a bucket and then sticking his whole arm in to swish it around to mix it before he threw that concentrated bucket load into the boom spray.

Chemicals are nasty things and when not used right they are bloody dangerous, but when used correctly in the correct conditions using the correct PPE they are relatively safe.
