Hey Scallops, did you by any chance travel forward to 2014 to see what the next Defender is actually going to look like? Also, when you were back in 1956, I hope you had the foresight to buy some BHP shares.
Thanks everyone - I'm very happy with my S1. It is all original - albeit a 1957 vehicle on a 1955 chassis hence a 1956 registration! (Must recalibrate my Time machine). But 100% Rover - no odd bits and pieces - except perhaps the indicators.
So the rear lights are not Pork Pies - but Della Beacons, as per factory fit. I'm still ironing out a few factory niggles - but even the new LRers need this kind of care. She will make about 85 km/h on a flat road - faster downhill (!), and is returning pretty good economy to boot.
I'll make sure I share with you all further tales of our adventures together. The gracious comments are appreciated.![]()

I went back to 1885 for the BHP shares - even better value then. The new Defender however, remains a mystery, as my > light speed thruster still isn't working properly - I'm sure I recall seeing a Lucas badge on it somewhere.
