RIP Bucko - Riding on Forever
Back when I was 12 and dad sold the Mitubishi Triton and got a 1975 Series III LWB Diesel
I used to draw pictures of my dream Landy
Sitting on the dog box of a County 110 Hardtop on the track into Aurukun in the middle of 1988.
The ABC had been filming a Bush Tucker Man episode with Les Hiddins and I was driving a Suzuki Hardtop to Aurukun from Weipa and the battery shorted out on the bonnet (we found out later).
The film man came along looking for a spare tyre that had fallen off the roof the day before and ran the two of us who were stranded in to Aurukun. Only one seat though, so I wedged myself on the dog box and was not uncomfortable at all. A Land Rover's ride on a rough track made me want one.
Took til 2001 for it to happen.
Cheers, Dale

I`m not so sure about a love affair, more a love hate relation ship at the moment. All ways had a affection for for the land rover. Now that I have one I`m realising it`s going to take a bit more than a affection to love them. Fast learning they are a fairly high maintenance beast. But for all my griping I won`t be selling any time soon. Love it out on the tracks not much love when it stops.

When I was about 7 years old and Dad borrowed a friends two door Rangie for a family holiday in the north of SA.
About 25 or so years ago, I bought an old farm hack S3 SWB ute, she had tired suspension, grass growning in her ute, moss growning in the window sills, and she had bar tread tyres on her. As a petrol motor, she went well though, until I gave her a lung full of mud at a mud bash compout the back of Wodonga,, damn it was fun. Had her for a good couple of years, she served me very well I must say,,
But, you get older, and the girl wanted more comfort,, so off to Toyota we went,,,, I know, bad move,, but the women need pleasing sometimes too,,
But, been back on the straight and narrow for well over ten years now with the D1,,, but I'd so love another old girl again,,,

I can't recall why I asked but I do remember asking my father how much a second hand Land Rover would cost when I was eight. The year was 1957. I got my first one eleven years later. Here is a photo of the old grey beast taken in 1974 at the old sawmill on Mt Coricudgy (east of Rylstone, NSW and now part of Wollemi National Park):
