    Hit the start button and...BANG.

    Gday All,
Went to go to work tonight and as soon as we hit the start button for the Cummins this happened.

Easy decision about whether to change them or not..
The flame that shot out of 1 was a beauty blew the lid clean off the battery box.

Thankfully the engine start is a long way from the batteries..

Hmm - scary stuff... Better not show that to my better half. She or I sit on top of 2 of those in the 110 - (depending on who is driving...)

    Are they still under warranty?

Saw the same thing happen to batteries on a Mack - air start, consensus was they were down on water and must have internally shorted.

Not really they sit in a fibreglass box that stops them moving the acid went out the vent holes and cleaned the alloy floor plates up nice, the lid has a big black mark on it where the flame/and force blew it off.. and I was about 15 feet away and had to change me undies...so no it couldve been alot worse..lucky I bring planty of undies to sea with me..

fairly typical result for one of 2 things.

    1. uncovered plates
    2. batteries that are too low in the CCA department for the starting current.

seen an N200 blow the top completly off and the lid of the box it was fitted into. Acid every where. was in the engine room of a 47ft boat. No problem found with the charging systems, must have had a major internal short.
