Yep, that is deeply satisfying when you come accross that sight.

A lot of the problem comes from the often erroneous perception that Defenders are slow. Whilst they are definitely slower off the mark due to the low gearing, they are just as fast as the next vehicle once you move up the gears. The appearance of a metal brickhouse on wheels doesn't help things.

I can't count the number of times I have been in the left hand lane at the lights and seen several vehicles pull into the right lane in anticipation of me making a slow start when they go green. A couple will bolt past as we cross the intersection but third gear soon sees me scoot by again 50m up the road (usually while they're on the phone not paying attention). The most annoying thing is boneheads who break the sound barrier to pass you at any opportunity only to slow down to 5km/h below the speed limit once it goes back to two lanes.

Moggill road here in Brisbane is a classic example. Most of it is 70km/h out from Kenmore with a few overtaking lanes. Guaranteed some dickhead will be doing 80km/h in the overtaking lane only to slow to 65km/h once it runs out .

I can't say this behaviour is limited to Patrol or Cruiser drivers, but I don't think I've ever seen one who didn't do this.

I was coming up behind a V8 D3 in the city....he'd been driving pretty quietly until he saw my D4 come up behind....then he nailed it between a set of traffic lights! I don't usually drive like this () but I fired up the turbos .....he looked most surprised when he looked in the rear view and saw I was still there. He went back to Mr Sedate again....

At least he wasn't rude or dangerous....just having a bit of fun.

I have had a similar situation in my county where i have attempted to overtake in a twin lane section to pass a patrol that was doing 80 in a 100 zone, as i got up next to them they sped up to around 120 so i couldnt pass them, the old 3.5 just couldnt match the the pace so i slowed down only to have them drop back to 80kph once the overtaking lane was finished.... It will be interesting if someone tries that on me once its back on the road with the 5.7L pushing it along

Saw a semi deal with that quite neatly when all the nomads pulled over into the right hand lane he just steamed up the left and put the nose of the rig in front of the second nomad and stayed there. indicated right for about 300m and then just slowwwwly crept over with the merge of the lane.

I typically reply to something like that with... Aww shucks that'd be SGT dickhead to you... feel like pulling over and copping an obstructing the flow of traffic ticket or a failed to follow direction fine in the mail?

tends to get some very interesting results on the radio and a nice easy overtake at the next opportunity.
