He had his wife and 2 little kids in with him, They were camped next to a couple of guys from the MySwag forum

Thankfully they all got out ok, if not totally terrified. The rescuers took them back to their camp for the night as with the fast flowing rivers they could not get out themselves. Took them all day Monday to then get back to his camp to help him get his gear. (without the rivers being up it would have been a ten minute trip!!) A very commendable effort by the group who put the safety of the family above their long weekend holiday.

we were planning on camping at wonangatta on the weekend of the 13th of november, i guess we will be looking for another camp site now!

Why? I doubt the mountains run off water for 2 weeks after rain, especially the headwaters.

its only about a week away now, do you reckon it will be back to normal by then?

LOL, i'm going this saturday and still think its a remote possibility... call it hoping if you will. I've been watching the BOM flood warnings and river heights.

I think by the time you go in it will more than likely be lower.

I'll be checking with the local ranger tomorrow and then make a decision on saturday based on what he says and what the buffalo river on the way in looks like... no point driving all the way in only to turn around.

Unless it rains again ( & I've been in Wonnangatta when it rained heavily only there), then the rivers up there really only peak for a short while. Not like the Howqua lower down for example.
I would have a plan B & be ringing the Licola store or the ranger at Heyfield on the Friday before.

Good idea, Ray & Mary at the store will have a good idea what conditions are like further up, as would the Managers at the camp - they all have regular contact with locals and the DSE. Let me know if you need phone numbers...
