Fact is, even if they wanted to the pom's can't make enough to keep the market happy. Never could either, which is why you've had the Santana's, Honda's, etc. China and Asia are a huge market and it makes economic sense to make them where they are going to be sold.

f the labour is cheaper then I think that they are more likely to maintain a standard because they are cost saving in other areas.
In years to come when the labour cost is higher in China they will move else where (back to Europe?)

On a relatively recent trip to the Simpson desert, the two Defenders with p38a type diffs had front diff failures. Then talk to Tusker about them, he's converted his Defer back to Salisbury because of repeated diff failures. Even Mal Storey of MaxiDrive fame doesn't think much of the P38a diff, his reasons is there isn't enough meat on the back of the crownwheel so it flexes on the carrier and lose teeth.

Try getting the three-amigos fault cleared in Central Australia. Why should you have to buy a Nanocom to drive a Land Rover where they should be able to go without problem?

Talk to Dullbird about Puma engines?

Well I can tell you about cruisers with diff failures and engines that stop and clutches and gearbox's that **** themselves and they don't all have computers,plenty of 1HD-FTE's were replaced too,as are D4D's so Dullbird isn't alone.I don't think it will make any difference were LR's are made,like ALL vehicles they'll break and everyone needs to get over the computer bit,they are here to stay.Oh,my hilux dash used to light up with warning lights and it never left Kalgoorlie. Pat

At least you can get a diagnostic tool to fix these problems. See what happens when a check engine light comes on in a Jap vehicle (and it does happen) in the bush.

I wish my puma had been made in China; it would have had to have been put together with better workmanship than that displayed by the cockeyed muppets that put mine together. I love my Defender, having said that if made in China they will also (hopefully!) be priced closer to what they are really worth. It's a good thing in my opinion.

My Puma engined Defender is fine....but thank you for everyone's sympathy anyway.

The engine will still be made in Dagenham.
