    Round the world....

we've got a fairly diverse range of places people are from so to steal a quote from the hunt for read october "Your aircraft has dropped enough sonar buoys so that a man could walk from Greenland to Iceland to Scotland without getting his feet wet" and to suitably modify it

"you've got so many members spread so wide you could traverse the continents and not book a hotel."

Could it actually be done, does the Landy Ethos spread so far and so well that a person could travel around the world without having to book a hotel or use a coin-op laundry?

IF someone was daft enough to have a crack at it would you throw in?

If youve answered yes to the first to have a go at these

    where are you from?
how long would you let them stay?
other than a roof/shower/laundry what else could/would you offer them?
how far would you be willing to go to help them on their way if it was needed? (local knowledge eg parts/repairs/traveling routes/general stocks/medical aid)

Interesting concept Dave. I think I'd be willing to help a fellow Landy owner with hospitality and any genuine need. Most owners I've met are the type of people who like to help others. We seem to be a unique breed.

A week ago we drove the County 1000k's from Qld to NSW ... we saw dozens of Land Rovers on the trip and only got one wave from a fellow Defender driver. Not sure how much good will is actually out there in the LR community after that experience!

I'd put most I've met up for a few days but I'd make an exception for you, Dave.

Seriously, most I've met have been good blokes as are most on this forum. There are a few that wouldn't stay with me as I get up their noses.

Met up (by prior arrangement) with a French couple in Tasmania a few years back and invited them to 'tag along' with us for three weeks through the more remote areas of Tassie. Had a great time and got along well so when they arrived in Sydney a couple of months later, we hosted them for seven weeks during which time we arranged a 'Rovers bush Restaurant' black tie dinner with about fifty LROC members (See their report here Australian Bush, French Dream} and also assisted with some extensive repairs to their Defender. During their stay we experienced an abundance of French cooking and learnt quite a few new receipes.

On the other side, during a recent visit to Canada, we made contact with the Maritime Organisation of Rover Enthuasists (MORE) and spent a very enjoyable long weekend with them during their Labour Day Rally.

Both positive and memorable experiences and shows that 'we are a unique breed'.

The questions raised by Dave however are not easy to answer as so much depends on what common interests, apart from Land Rovers, the people you come in contact with have. There is a huge variation in interests, backgrounds, behaviours among Australians and when you go global and add cultural differences etc then you have a whole lot more to consider.

A very nice concept to ponder over though.

Yep same here, we would let overseas or interstate travellers stay here too, if they need.
