I sell quite a bit of scrap from time to time. There are two scrap prices for steel. Good heavy steel and light steel. Mix the two together and you only get the light steel rate. Alluminium is worth good money but you have to make sure there is no other metals attached, (steel bolts brackets etc). Generally the time taken to clean the ally makes it debatable whether it is worth it. Leave it as it is and you only get the light steel price as the scrappies have to pay wages to sort it. I sorted a lot of old LR panels (non salvagable) out a few years ago. I ended up with a tandem trailer load of ally. Same with gearbox and tranny housings, by the time you knock out bearing cups and steel studs you might as well take the light steel price. Just depends what value you put on your own time.
