Thread: To fly or to drive?

As someone that flys weekly. i will and always will fly qantas. the media is blowing things out of the water. one plane breaks down for an couple of hours and its like the world is coming to an end. at lest qantas fixes it before take off.

There have been a few issues, but none have fallen out of the sky - I would still fly, still lower risk than driving.

X 2 - I fly every month or so for work, and will always fly with Qantas. Other airlines have similar problems, but they never get reported by the media and beaten up over it. I have flown on small local carriers that have aborted a take off and made us wait for another plane - better to be safe than sorry.

Statistically speaking, by aircraft is still the safest form of transport. (Probably safer than being a pedestrian in Elizabeth St, Melbourne CBD.)

Flying by far the safest option (discounting the drives to/from airports )

As for QANTAS as someone said EVERY other airline is serviced offshore

Agree 100%,

Just remember one kept flying with a big hole in it engine, another had a door fall off and kept going etc etc.

Ok, might give you a bloody big fright but at least you can walk off and complain to the waiting media about it and not end up a pile of ash on the hill side. Not great publicity but none have hit the ground harder they they should have, just yet.

You can bet that now will be the safest time to fly as they will be double checking everything as they do not want another "incident" just as everyone gears up for their Christmas Holidays and decides to fly another airline or defer for safety issues.

Now the statisticians will tell you it is inevitable there will be a serious crash but really, how many will die on the roads at Christmas (50, 60 100 ?) let alone those seriously injured etc.

No one has died from a Qantas plane crashing that I am aware of, ride the big bird !

Yes guys, you all are correct, as we read this thread there are hundreds of planes in the air.
The spot between Gympie and the Sun Shine Coast is more dangerous that any air lane in the world.
I guess that I posted the thread with the frustration at the moment in see how many reports we have about Qantas by the "news hunters"

The Australian Licenced Aircraft Engineers Association is committed to fighting the offshore outsourcing of work to countries like Dubai that arguably have superior equipment and do the best and most cost effective aircaft work in the world. This is the same union that had their Federal Secretary seeking re-election early this year to then have nomination rejected because his licence as an aircraft engineer was no longer valid. What a bunch of self serving monkeys. Go Qantas.
