Unfortunately not good news.I've just had a look and the carden joint has fractured and the drive shaft has flailed about and split the sump.I was going to cut the joint off,the bolts are smashed and get it going on rear wheel drive but the sump is leaking badly and not worth the risk of further damage driving it.It's on a truck on the way to Perth so it's all good,it's only just come off a hoist at Headland so it's very disppointing that it wasn't checked properly but it's something thats all too common. Lucky it only damaged the sump. DM Digital had the same problem and it smashed a hole in the auto along with ripping the nearby wiring loom to shreds.

    Good work Pat.

    Thanks to All

    hi everyone.

My name is Darren and i was the poor sod stuck on the side of the road in WA.

firstly i would like to thank a few people:

Special Thanks to Craig for starting the thread and getting everyone rallied to help.

Thanks to Pat for driving out to see me at the Capricorn Roadhouse. it was greatly appreciated to see someone who would take their time to help a stranger.

Thanks to the guy(not sure of his name) from the Auski Roadhouse who was driving to my location when he saw my Landy on the back of a float headed towards Newman.

Special thanks to Col, The truck driver who picked me up (if he is ever on here)

and a very special thanks to Oldson(my dad) for doing everything he could to try and help me even though i was 5000k away.

    now for an update:

What happened was, the universal joint on the front Prop Shaft closest to the gearbox just disintegrated. the prop shaft then bashed around under the car(was doing about 120k when it gave way)

on first inspection it just looked like ti damaged the exhaust and the sump on the gearbox. on closer inspection, this wasn't the case.

the prop shaft has smashed against the side of the gearbox and bend the gearbox housing just above where the sump seal in. this has produced a major leak, so a new gearbox is required.

the vehicle is now in Perth at 'Jordon Rovertech' and Kevin is going to replace the gearbox with a reco and a new front shaft. apart from this he reckons the car is in good order.

if all goes well, i will be continuing my travels from Perth to Newcastle starting on the 23rd of December. hopefully there will be no further surprises.

now a little off topic. i am moving to Brisbane in January, does anyone know if there is a Landy Club on the Northside of Brisbane. i am hankering for some 4wding.

once again, thanks to all those involved. it has given me faith that their are people out there who are willing to help a perfect stranger(strangers to me at least) when they are in need.

    Cheers

    Darren

Bugger - missed this by a few days (only got back home last night).

There's a blue Disco 1 behind the pub at Nullagine that might have been worth a look at. Have also spotted a couple of old series Landies out behind the tip at Bonnie Downs - haven't had a chance to have a closer look so far.

I was at the Nullagine pup night before last for a birthday party - saw the Disco out there, not sure if it's a goer or not.
    Cheers .........
