The flood waters in the BV will be well gone by then providing no more rain falls. Tracks may be eroded more than usual and creek crossings should be viewed with suspicion before crossing due to bottoms washing out. Plenty of camping beside the Buckland River paralleling the Bucklnad Valley Road itself.
The BV is usualy pretty popular over both Xmas and Easter with campers etc - but don't let that deter you. Not sure if the log trucks will be working over Xmas- they're always an adventure on a tight track.
Try googling Parks Vic for current track conditions in the Alpine National Park which commences at the extreme south end of the BV not far from Beveridges Station. The other thing is that with so much rain and water logged ground is that the trees are prone to falling over and blocking the tracks - as are some land slips. Chainsaw and a shovel may prove welcome additions.
What are your activities planned for the BV?
What are you driving?
Oh yeah - sort of my backyard.
Cheers Grumbles.
Thanks for the heads up Grumbles:)
I was going to check the DSE and Parks sites prior.
I'm driving a D2a, unfortunatley the lockers can't be re-installed prior to xmas ( i have them from a prior D2) so will be open diffs but we do have a 50mm lift, muddies and lots of nerve LOL
Also always have the shovel and chainsaw packed.
Why don't you look us up?
Seems a lot of Victorians head North to the South Coast of NSW, from Eden to Batemans Bay, so if you are coming up this way and want to see whats available up here, send an email or PM, happy to show fellow Land Rover owners around, Regards Frank.
Give the local DSE Ranger in Bright [Craig Hore] a ring 5755 0000 for the latest on tracks etc in the area. He is always up to speed.
Will try [no promises] to pop in for a howdy. Perhaps let me know where you will be camping - the valley is 30 kays long with side tracks and a thousand places to camp -a bit hard to find you going in without knowing where to look. My Rangie is not CB equipped.
Mogadishu for Xmas day..2nd in a row!!
Then, out to Nairobi to fly to Maputo, in Mozambique to visit family, hire a vehicle and then do some driving. Driving options include up the coast or, a drive through South Africa via Swaziland and then north into the Lebombo Mountains or, down south to Kwazulu-Natal....decisions, decisions, decisions.
G'day Grumbles. I'll be working out roughly where we'll be over the weekend, I'll send you a pm as soon as I've got it worked out.... at least to the nearest Km or so LOL. Of course it all depends on how many others are there etc
