    Bloody Power Failures

We had a small storm this afternoon

    here is the lead up....

    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-ch...hite-xmas.html

We live on rural land and those that know this know there is no toilets/shower or any water coming from any tap without power so the generator has been buzzing in my ear for 4 hours now..

on the plus I have Internet and 1 light oh and the fridge is now plugged in

We must be due for another of our regular occurences like that. 31 hours without power has been the longest.

One N70Z battery and an inverter allow me to use water during a power failure. And I've got some 12V led downlights now too. No need to run a generator non-stop.

Trouble with that is the inverter is in the camper there was talk of bringing the camper up to the house but that would mean to load it onto RED 130 and drive it up....much easier bringing up the gennie

and now the fridge, freezer and everything else is running

    Gday, Carolyn and Harry,

we are half way into our new house!! (still doing loads every few days to finish off!) but with ferry repairs and lifting the platforms etc to cope with rising river harder to do regular trips when I have the time!

we got a new fridge and freezer and plugged them in and filled them...

5 hours later BOOM/CRACK "black!" no power...

no power = no pump to push the water 1.5km from river to our place
we supply 4 other houses so supply in serious danger!

got out my gennie (old B&S %hp 2.5kva) and it.it...good old faithful, never lets me down...promptly crapped itself!
(no notice no warning - dropped the piston! ARRRGHHH good one!)

have bought new gennie (arrived 2 hours after power came back on!)
3.5kva (for price of 3kva as didnt have any in stock! and because our local honda bloke is a good guy!) and repairs (newly rebuilt honda 8hp motor) being done to old gennie so I have bigger capabilities in future!

38.5 hours power was out...lighting strike decimated transformer etc but took about 10 hours to FIND WHERE IT HAPPENED!! they used a chopper in the end as they couldnt follow the lines as lots of tracks no good, washed away or too boggy for vehicles..

anyway, that and the two days heavy downpour makes us wonder....
are they trying to tell us something?

    cheers

(ps only one bay of the implement shed got wet so all landys still "snug!")

They used to call our power service Ulan candle power a few years back as would pop a fuse even if a bird farted in a tree near by let alone a severe storm.

Hope the damage wasn't to bad with the hail and winds.

We have just been hit here now but only a lot of noise and some rain.

Don't you drag that hail down here when you turn up.

The mossies are epic here now so be prepared! Coils, repellent and cover up with clothes. They don't know if to eat here or take you away

    Cheers Tony

The power didn't come back on till about 6.30 this morning, so I couldn't go to work at 5, someone had to look after the generator

did eventually go and got home from work this afternoon just before the storm hit no hail today though....

Good to see you finally moving into the house digger

Tony no damage just shredded trees, we hope not to bring hail with us
