also note in the control tower picture the DC-3
I thought everyone knew who TAA was. Anyhow Trans Australian Airlines was a commission set up by the federal government after WW2. For years there was the 2 airline policy, TAA and Ansett who were in opposition to each other (although they mostly flew the same routes with identical departure times). TAA changed name to Australian Airline in the early 80's and was integrated into Qantas (Another government airline) in 1994. The Qantas logo now does domestic and international flight. Have a look on the internet. it's history is well documented.

Ah do you know of freddie laker though ??????
I knew of Ansett because I had asked the missus previous her being a true blue sand groper she knew te go!
but never new about the other mob TAA I will have a gander online as I thought there was just Ansett and Qantas. cheers
P.S. That the logo says 'TAA The Nation's Jetline' when it seem's prop driven
That photo of the TAA super viscount would have been taken some time around 1964 when TAA bought their first Boeing 727-100 T-Jets, hence the logo. The super viscounts and electras (both turbo props) were still in service then. The lockheed electra is still in service today as a military/marine application, the Orion. Both of them were truly magnificent aircraft in their time, but could not match the pure jets.

That particular aircraft VH-TVJ named Ernest Giles in the photo had an interesting history from 1956 to 1970 when it was stripped and sold in Brisbane. It's nose section is now in the air museum at Caloundra. Originally it was named John Forrest (they were all named after early Australian explorers). It was renamed in 1964 so that explains the jetline logo.
