Yep very good value for money. I have a T-Max as a winch for my Seafarer Vagabond. Have had it on the trailer for about 5 years or so and it winches more than most 4wd'ers use theirs. It winches sometimes at quite and angle and pulls the old girl up dry at times so its quite a weight. It is the size that was recommended for Vitara's and similar. It has been fantastic and I extended the remote cable to suit.Quote:

Pulls brilliantly, and when disassembled shows strong, quality engineering.
A friend with a DS-9.0 has no issues either...
They are about 400 pounds but google around!!!!!
The reason a high mount is superior is the lay out of the geartrain makes them less likely to fill with crud and fail
Most winch's will do the job for a general use type of person, just use a snatch block as often as required
Small Hijack: Are there any particular considerations for snatchblocks and synthetic rope? Type/min rad etc?
I have heard that the gear train in HM also draw less amps than the worm drive in LM but weather it's a rumour or not I can't say. PatQuote:

Had a look around for prices on most of the winches we've been talking about.
The Warn 8274-50 on eBay Australia is $2,595.
Couldn't find one on the eBay USA site that would import it into Australia.
They have them on there though for around $1500 USD so if I could import it into Australia for $200-500 I would still be in front.
The Tigerz11 winches are $845 on eBay Australia with free postage which seems like a really good price!
The Premier DV-9000 winches from eBay Australia are $1350.
The Comeup ones that are the same type from the UK work out at about $615 AUD plus postage of course. Seems cheap from the winch you get.
845 with rope and a very good 3yr warranty,, im using it alot is seems to,
used it countless times yesterday and at least comes out once a week,,
also loving the wireless remote,
i just simply cant afford even a 1400$ winch, let alone a 2500$,
and they come with cable, il never go back,, rope is buy far better,
yes you need to wash it after use in mud but its the same for the rest of your reco gear and car, so i can put up with the extra 10mins washing the rope out,
IF I was going to ebay a 8274 then I'd buy one of the bare chassis' available for around 2 grand (last I looked) add a decent motor (or two) 6HP also on ebay for around $325- then rope as much as you can fit.
End up with what you want the way you want it. Freighting a hi-mount is dear. I looked at one I could have had for $500- AU from USA but freight was a killer even with my (ex) works rates. Was over weight for a USPS pre paid box so it jumped from about $20- (even though it'd fit physically) to over $200-US.
I think I'll be happy with the Tigerz 12000lb plus rope for $200- (incl 4 free 50% BFG A/T's I scored on the pickup) and if it ever dies beyond redemption I'll either already have a dedicated off road unit or be able to afford a new 8274 (or GigglePin)
I got a 12000lbs Ironman for $799 on ebay (brand new at the 9000lb price). Only used it 4 times to drag fallen trees, but they were big ones. Seems to work fine. Cheap and with a 3 year warranty that Ironman have a reputation of honouring.
One piece of advice I did get that doesn't seem to get a mention was that an electric winch should only be worked for no more than 30 seconds, then left to cool for a minute or so before having another go. Can anyone comment on the validity of that?
